you can almost guarantee this will happen when the AC pilot get close to the end of their agreement. Also, since they recently joined ALPA, they will know what deal WS pilots got to the very last detail. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

My previous employments pilot union went to ALPA awhile back, and they got 30-50% raises, lol. So it wouldn't surprise me everyone is pointing at their agreement. (though they were paid very low compared to AC/WJ prior to the new agreement)This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

People think airfares are currently high...

you might lol, but ALPA was asking for $300K for 737 pilots and $350K for 787 pilots. I'm sure they didn't get what was asked for, but they got something and it isn't small. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Yeah pretty wild airfares in nominal dollars haven't changed much in 10 to 15 years. I'm pretty comfortable paying for the services for a business with ultra low margins.
Good for them, no idea if that’s good or bad? Just the “career destination” commentary that made me laugh. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

WestJet used to be a great company where people would love to work there. It was getting worse but since being bought by Onex, in all departments, it's basically a sweatshop.
M. Edwards would be proud.

Its only cheap to fly in certain circumstances. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
For example I often need to book last minute flights about 1-3 days out from travel. Going from YEG to GP? That'll be $800 economy. Going YEG to YKA? Ya that'll be $1100 lol. Its ridiculars. Meanwhile, booking 2 months out I got YEG to YYZ for $250 taxes in. Makes lots of sense.
Tap, Rack, BANG!

I think that's how much all flights SHOULD cost. Flying YYC to YVR for $99+tax or YYZ for $250 is a loss leader afforded by an ultra competitive industry with razor thin margins (probably negative if you consider the bankruptcies) operating efficiently as possible. We're lucky to live in a capitalist economy that allows for those things to happen. If anything it's gone a bit too far i.e. Spirit & discount airlines in the states where all the riff raff have been able to afford the same experience and taking flight resembles getting on a transit bus. Add in the environmental & health toll of heavy jet fuel pollutants I think flying should and NEEDS to be a luxury. My 2 cents. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
