My battery charges by turning the key to ignition then driving.

So like all things solar, the real break-even is long term? Not shocked.

$1000 add-on, the price is reasonable honestly. I'm sure insurance companies will say otherwise though, rofl. Which is okay, cause I'd much rather have a panoramic sunroof anyways.

In places like Cali that's about 30 cents a day in savings. LA averages 275 sunny days a year gives ~7 years payback. Assuming you park outside in full sun. Though with electricity rates rising it may payback sooner down the road.

Seems odd and less efficient that focusing on residential solar.

May be this is for covering their ass for the old ad campaign claiming self-charging.

It's a neat idea to me, although the economics don't make much sense. Practically, let's say you drive to the airport to leave for a week and you come back to the car having an additional 40km of charge. At least that's enough to get home.

That sums up EV's and solar power, succinctly.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Can you tell us a bit more about the prius? I want to try out a prime, but finding a Toyota dealer that will even talk to me about one is a challenge.

Back when my commute was 3km in stop and go traffic, the idea that leaving the car parked outside would get me even 25% of a charge for that commute is hilarious.

Midtown manhattan 5 mph limits how much energy per day can be consumed. But there is no sun there, too many skyscrapers.

If you happen to be in a slow traffic city with no skyscrapers, it might make more sense.

I'm in the US and I ordered it back in December because I was curious. however I decided i didn't really want it when it arrived so i didn't drive it. it wasn't the prime model neither (not that it would have made a difference). the interior, fit and finish, back seat seemed big. people say the cargo is less than the old prius, but it's plenty for me coming from an e550 coupe. In the US, I can get a Tesla 3 Performance EV for about 44k pre-tax, after all credits and stuff. I'd rather get that over a prius if that were the case.
