Cant comment on most of this but Friday afternoon is not correct. Everyone’s network access was blocked before the start of work on Friday.
Interesting. My buddy told me Friday afternoon about it, perhaps I interpreted that as it happening shortly around then. I have more info but don't want to burn my sources, there aren't too many people around where it may become pretty easy to track back to them.

MAGA = My Ass Got Arrested.

Beware the passive aggressive Mean Girls. Vengie, Killramos, Penismightier, buster, jrscoolude, etc who bully others into their circle jerk opinion, serially negging you, while claiming they ignore you and don't obsess over you.

PSA. High school is not a popularity contest little girls

The incident started Thursday and by Friday morning, everyone is locked out.

It does raise a question though what to do with my personal computer. We WFH so the company surface was on my wifi but as far as I know it couldn’t really connect to anything else and nothing is shared on my other pcs anyways. Though to be safe I’m guessing reformat my personal pc is probably not a bad idea? Most of my stuff is backed up to Dropbox anyways but also don’t want to risk any of that.

Resident IT people got any advice?

These types of attacks don't usually care about home networks and you are generally safe from any issues.

Might be safe...the surface is on VPN I would guess...depends if it's always on VPN or connected at the time needed, but I would consider that device compromise. Also depends if spit-tunneling is enabled to route traffic outside of the VPN (for home network printers to work for example)...if it is then your home network could potentially be compromised as well, but they most likely don't give two fucks about your home PCs.

Latest I hear is that it was indeed social engineering as was mentioned earlier, and that they have been in the system for a while....much like when it happened to us, they tracked it down to two weeks. Lots of traffic going out to MEGA.NZ ect.

People are forced to take vacation days and contractors are not being paid? One of my colleague mentioned it as her husband works at S.

Not surprised if people is going spend 3 weeks doing even less than WFH.

Then again, one of those weeks is Stampede, dick all get done anyway.

This is why I only use company property on guest network for WFH and never my own PC. I don't want shit to be exposed either way.

lol. Contractors not getting paid makes perfect sense, but forced vacay is outrageous. I assume this will only fly for employees that have skills that aren't in demand, or mediocre ambition.

Shitty employees lead to shitty outcomes, treating employees badly leads to shitty employees, shitty outcomes leads to treating employees badly.

In some cases. I've only really worked with their Directors/VPs, but most of them seem to have their shit together.

I guess they spent the rank and file budget on the management consultants.

For the record, I have no inside knowledge of the quality or lack, of Suncor employees. It's a joke.

I also shit-talk CNRL and Cenovus every chance I get.

Suncor has that extra stink of previously actually being a crown corp too.

I still have some Petro Canada swag from when I worked there.
