I am just saying that $16 a a day is a rounding error on most vacations.
Easy to eat for convenience.
Also worth noting that AirAlo is data only, so if you have green bubble friends forget about them for the trip. That and it’s nice being able to use the phone for things like restaurant resos, calls back home, work calls that aren’t on teams. Whatever. Even if you get an esim with a phone line, no one is going to call or text you on it from home. Maybe that’s a plus, but for some it’s not.
It seems dumb at face value, but like I said it is what it is.
Might do a US/Can plan, they have gotten cheaper especially once you are on high data plan to begin with. US travel is 90% of my international these days.

You need to be more Asian.
I have those use cases covered, but yes, the immediacy of having RLH isn't there, but fuck work and friends, you are on vacation.
Green bubbles can wait for me to tether to my wife's phone or use free Wifi to turn on Airplane mode and Wifi calling. You aren't roaming and can call and text as much as you want from your primary number so long as you have a decent data connection.

I don’t think my $50 BYOD allowance will cover RLH. But sure lol.

I'm with Killy... you guys are bonkers to go through that for, as said, what amounts to a rounding error on an overseas trip.
I've always used RLH and don't even know how international sims work... does your normal phone # not work while you've got the sim exchanged? Do you set up call forwarding to your temporary #?
This is a whole new world

We've explained that your primary number still works. There is no exchanging of SIMs and no forwarding required. both SIMs are active at the same time. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It's such a simple thing but imma gonna let you throw your money away.

Yea. But if you text or make calls on your primary sim / phone number you are paying a roaming rate per minute or per text.
Unless you are hanging out in wifi, but then why have a cell phone at all lol
Just took a 20 minute impromptu work call. Would have cost a few bones.
I wasn’t that impressed with Airalo’s high data plans. Good thing with RLH is the price is the same whether you are on a poverty plan or they’re most expensive.
So I have been burning nearly 5 GB per day using my phone freely as my primary internet source all included in my Telus cap. Using that kind of data wouldn’t have been cheap with AirAlo either.
I guess I could have fought with a cell phone kiosk clerk in a language I haven’t spoken in a decade to try and get a local plan.
Or… $16 a day starts looking real friendly

I do appreciate your concern about me throwing my money away... I now have this image in my head of you guys at a restaurant on vacation - "Honey, shhh... She'll have tap water, thanks"
I’ve always been a man of the people

Haha. One thing I don't do is chintz on food. I might like greasy spoon cheap eats like In-n-out burger, but I am not drinking the tap water cause it is free. Not going to spend 2 days in bed with Montezuma's revenge. That costs more than water and I am smarter than that. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Well, @you&me and @killramos are richer than me. If you are rich, use RLH! So easy!
If you are poor cheap bastard like me and @rage2 , use Airalo or Orange (in Europe) and save your pennies!

Not saying richer or anything like that... It's just interesting to see what some people choose (not) to spend money on...
But yes, so far the DBP moto has yet to find a case where it's not applicable and remains undefeated.
I’m not cheap. I just don’t like being ripped off. I buy my esims at home while taking a shit. It takes no time at all. For a 2 week trip it’s less than 10% of cost of RLH and I don’t burn thru personal data. It’s a no brainer effort vs reward.

Default voice line primary with data roaming off means i'll get texts and phone calls to my normal number but it won't charge me anything unless I send out texts (green bubble ew) or calls? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Correct. RLH is annoying. Even a text triggers it. No text to @Buster is worth $16.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
