...Parts and service are the cash cows for dealers, aren't they?

My buddy tells me otherwise for the ownership group(Ford) he works for. It's not losing/break even bad for service but sales destroys the service and the numbers he shared with me were no where near close. (I don't recall the figures, but I was surprised.)

I suspect their aggregate margin is actually really healthy on a $150 wiper blade install that takes all of 45 seconds and can probably be done while the car is draining it's oil. Parts and service are the cash cows for dealers, aren't they?
I bet you they trade 20 wiper replacements for one big job requiring 10 hours on the lift.

Admin and headache around dealing with 20 customers, juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

If they do it on otherwise unproductive time that’s great but tough for me to feel they should price that job any differently.

Invoicing each customer probably costs them ten bucks at least on average. Customers are the fucking worst.

Most of them are consolidated like Dilawri Group or GoAuto

Ya and headoffice can easily reduce labour hours for the techs lol hence why turnover so high

It’s all good haha for the record, Lexus Calgary is an excellent dealership

My car was in there for 10 hours for water bypass coolant leak repair which is specialized repair, but for non specialized stuff like wipers, I’ll save money where I can

Yea GX has been on a 30 day hold at port for a few weeks now, at first it was to do with damage to hoods from bad paint protection covers but I’m guessing this slows things down too.

Recall is only 22, 23 so far though. So maybe it’s been addressed in the GX from factory?

Not clear what they are going to do about it as the issue has led to extensive bottom end damage and spun crank bearings.

LCs are on QC hold as well, some guessing that its a sunroof issue as most 1958 models (no sunroof) still seem to be getting delivered. Someone else found info relating to VSC systems.. so who knows.
