    Default Moving - seacan container

Getting a giant ass seacan delivered to start packing our place up to move and curious for those who have done it before, what was the best way to pack it (or how did you regret it). The boxes and all that are easy, just pile boxes to the ceiling.. what about all the other crap? I have two sets of winter tires, mitre saw, patio furniture, etc. just stuff it in and hope for the best?

Heaviest shit first, then to the ceiling with everything else.

But first step is two to four pickup trucks full to the dump or charity shop.

Think we’ve probably made $1000 off selling random shit for $10 a piece. Plus all the other random garbage given away, has been a good purge.

How do they pick them up? My first thought was to load all the heavy stuff opposite the end that gets picked up first. But then I remembered I'm a fuckin idiot, and surely they don't pick it up with a bed truck like it's the oilfield. Do they?

I think it just slides off and on a flatbed. It’s a 40 footer so it’s a big one.. guess I’ll see tomorrow

Does it have ring hooks inside, if so use ratchet straps to create sections to help hold things in place/prevent movement.

Yup lots of hooks. Thing is massive so don’t see myself needing to stack to the roof

Wow, an actual seacan. I was expecting one of those flimsy ass moving pod things.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Bonus points if you just keep it at the new place for storing crap

How far are you going? If its across town, I don't think theres a big need to go wild packing.

Cochrane. Bigger thing is that I have a 2.5 week homeless stretch in the middle that it has to go to storage

Large stuff first for sure. Fill the voids with boxes, clothing, cushions etc. Try and keep everything tight. And if you have room at the end, then use a couple boxsprings and straps to create a wall. Also wrap the shit out of any good furniture you don't want scratched.

I ordered a 16’ pod to move in July. I was able to fit my garage in it

Worked great for me cause I took my garage cabinets and all my carpentry tools plus stock and then all the family outdooor equipment

Stack to the roof regardless or you may end up wasting a lot of time re-arranging to make more space. I said the same thing when we moved thinking 1 load with a 5 ton should be good and we ended up filling it up twice fully packed to the roof and we also did multiple runs with our van and SUV.

That looks like a great option for moving as long as your neighbors don't care that it's sitting on the street. Out of curiosity, which company are you renting that through? I had no idea you could rent such a big sea can.

I did get a street use permit for both airdrie and cochrane, and also talked to neighbours about it.

Make Space is who I did it with. Cant say that the seacan is in good shape, the one door is absolute hell to close to the point that we just kept it close for 2/3 of the loading (and struggled to close it before getting rained on). Also the moving company said they were going to show up with it at 9 am, it showed at 2:30. Im waiting for the pickup today, they said between noon and 3 (with a half hour before hand heads up) and havent heard boo.

Just hoping it makes it to the other end.

    Totally fine, right?

Seacan finally got here, supposed to be between 11-12, showed up at 6 pm. Pretty frustrating.
