If I'm not mistaken, the vast majority of shooting incidents in Canada are due to gang violence, whereas in the USA, guns are commonly used to back up virtually any crime - from burglary to homicide. It's unnerving when incidents like this happen in public places, though luckily the target is rarely innocent. I'm more concerned about stray bullets, etc. It seems there is a death every couple of years in Toronto alone for those being caught in crossfire.
It's mainly black on black violence in the USA.

It was a targeted shooting in a parking lot with 3 people injured. Initially made it sound like some sort of a heist was taking place in the mall based on some videos but that was the tactical unit doing sweeps.

Its confusing to me on how this even occurred when the liberal government in all their wisdom banned handguns/every rifle. So they must have thrown the bullets at the victims then since they weren't allowed to use a gun.

I'd be shitting my pants too if I was in a mall surrounded by zombies, I've seen the movies... The perpetrator probably didn't know that you need silver bullets to cause damage to NPC's in Edmonton.

I mean it was reported the victims suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Theory checks out.

Edmontons just turning into Gotham City LOL. There was a huge protest that turned into a riot cops had to handle. Full riot gear.

I love the media announcement a few months back from the police commisioner to please be aware of surroundings if going out in public or taking public transit as we can't keep you safe anymore cause you gonna get stabbed. Why did I move here, time to head back to YYC

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

It would be naive to assume this is an Edmonton exclusive problem.

Thats why I am excited for the West leg of the LRT. That way I can get stabbed on my way to, or in the downtown core, and my wife doesn't need to collect my vehicle. Its a win for everyone! /s

Same. I don't know why I left Calgary.

I think Calgary is more than a touch stabby on the ol' C-Train these days, so the dramatic escalation of urban decay since 26 installments of "just two more weeks to flatten the curve" that broke some key members of society isn't unique.

And Edmonton had a horrible year for murders within the last decade, iIRC. I used to walk home drunk as bawlzz in the middle of 3am into my hood without worrying about a thing. Then some degenerate murdered his escort and tried to bury her in the flower bed with a fucking dust pan and some other shit-dick killed a TFW on the street after a failed robbery. I still did whatever I wanted, but I switched to a "throat-punch first, questions later" stance when it came to any sort of street encounters.
It seems to be a bit of an ebb and flow situation.

But like I said before, WEM entered a hideous vibe of obviously roving gangs particularly centred around Bourbon Street several years ago and the complete lack of response to that has helped land this sweet situation.
But it would've been racist to fix it a few years ago, so... Obviously this is more prog and better.

    It's not but it's a lot better.

I'm also surprise Red Deer drop off this list, thought it was #1 in 2021.

EDIT: Red Deer is still bad, but somehow drop off the list since it now has less than 100k people.

Yes apparently Red Deer inherited a lot of poor people that got squeezed out of Calgary and Edmonton during the pandemic and it has not benefited the city.

They didn't ban EVERY gun. Surely these gangstas were using legally-obtained and registered firearms.

Nope, definitely not. They got rid of all guns and now Canada is safer.

Turdo explained to us that these guns have no place in Canadian society. To lead by example, all of his security detail surrendered their service pistols (handguns), police carbines (ar15s), mp5 sub-machine guns (AK47s), and even their pump action shotguns. What a brave leader.

WEM was already like this in the 1990s. Nothing new.
