Edit: for fucks sakes I don't think they did. Seriously what the fuck

Interesting, I’ve driven by there hundreds of times through the construction process and not noticed that once. If so, that’s pretty stupid. Urban planners gonna urban plan I guess.

Me too. I take my dog to daycare just on the other side of the bridge every work day and you know, just assumed that you would be able to go south. It looked like you'd be able to go south and also who would design a big bridge with lots of land without it?

They didn't want realtors claiming they're only 13 minutes from everything now.

So is this going to jam up Bow Trail in the mornings as more traffic comes in from the NW via Stoney to get into downtown each morning?

I’d be more worried about the 97 new low rise condo buildings going up between 85th/69th/old Banff. They’re going to add thousands of residents who’s only option to get dt is bow tr or 17th.

Creates a conflict with the Bow Trail interchange (they don't want weave zones), so to go south on Stoney from Old Banff you'd have to go to 101st to go to the Bow Trail interchange. Similarly there isn't a direct exit from southbound Stoney to 17th. You have to get off the Bow Trail exit to go to 101st to get to 17th. (There also isn't access from 17th to northbound Stoney).

It makes more 'sense' when you remember it's a provincial project and not a city one. The primary objective wasn't to move people from neighborhood to neighborhood, it's to create a bypass of the city connecting E-W and N-S highways. Wanting to avoid the mistakes they made with Deerfoot, avoiding conflicting zones was all part of the plan to ensure the main route of the highway can maintain it's speed. It's why you have the above routes, why 69th St is setup the way it is, why you have to do the same transfer for another interchange from 6th St SW to James McKevitt to get onto the Ring Road, etc. The province transportation engineers came up with the plan under the parameters they were given (and they delivered), now the city just has to deal with it.

Yup, there are very good reasons not to have southbound access from OBCR, it's way too close to Bow Tr. and they've learned from past mistakes.

Blackfoot over Glenmore used to be a full cloverleaf which was removed for a good reason and there were some other full cloverleaf intersections that had to be removed.

But 5 minutes to the new Farmers' Market and Bowness Park kicks ass.

10 mins to mercato from my house, vs 18-20. Sweet.
