If I had all my stuff here I would but everything is in storage in BC right now. Honestly though, just get a cheap used one from Kijiji or Marketplace for like $20/$30. You don't need anything ridiculous for something like this, and then you have it.
No, you need to buy the best for this little project.

I can’t cut a piece of plywood but I want to make my own furniture and build my own house.

Ok, so the clock was winding down and the steering wheel was one of the last things. But I've barely ever used a jigsaw so we shouldn't be expecting magic from a rookie in a rush. Plus, I had to free-hand the circular template with a pencil.
But it turned out almost precisely like shit. I couldn't follow the lines worth a squirt of fuck, plus, I must've been rushing which maybe results in a cut that isn't perpendicular and instead is a wavy mess.

Here a picture that is also terrible of the terrible work. I owe my kids better than this.

Tough to get a good circle with a jigsaw. Router works like a charm and gives consistent results.Name: Screenshot_20231014-214428~2.png

Its easy with a jigsaw. Cut outside the line then sand until its smoothed into a circle. I agree though for perfect circles router is the easiest.

I don't think any one is saying a router with a jig isnt the best method, but for someone new to wood working with limited tools then a jigsaw and sander will absolutely do the job and are less intimidating than a router and a much lower cost of entry.

This is definitely harder than it looks. The bamboo legs will not take the gel stain evenly probably due to my sanding job and the quality of the bamboo (Ikea salad bowls) Name: 20231021_194706.jpg

I think I might resand this stain off and spray paint the bowls a matte black. This will allow me to stain the plywood top to a light wood stain for a nice two tone effect without trying to match two different materials with one stain

Staining is an art. It's a pita and I'm not good at it either. Too much, too little, it never works for me. I got pissed off and when I painted the metal frame of my coffee table using sample car paint that I was going to use in my engine bay but changed my mind, I used a thin coat of white on the stained wood and I thought it looked way better.

That looks really good. Bamboo is a pain to stain is what I'm finding out.

Paint thinner worked well to remove most of the the stain. There are still a few spots that I'll sand away with 220 grit paper but I don't think I need all of it off as I picked up a matte black spray paint that I'll use on the balls. I'll still find a stain for the plywood top. My inspiration for this was this picture :

I have not secured the balls to the top yet but I think it turned out pretty nice. Stain is called peaceful sanctuary

That turned out much nicer than I had imagined when I first read the initial concept of plywood and salad bowls. Well done.

I wouldn't have turned out as nice as it did if it wasn't for your wood cutting skills. Thanks again for cutting the board into a circle

It's not the greatest coffee table book in the world, it's only a tribute.
