We toured early season this year in -25 and have done up to -32. Its fine if you're active and moving. Big difference between that and sitting on a chairlift and freezing for 5-10 minutes every run. Not sure wtf was with Castle that day, but it was beyond cold and everyone we talked to had trouble with their wax just simply not working.

    -35c

One of the best days out. Peaks were blown to hell but everything below was waist deep and so fluffy and light.

For sure sometimes those cold days are amazing. Or painful, but worth the risk probably.

I was making the assumption that the visitors would be resort skiing on groomed runs. Touring/heli/whatever has tons of snow, definitely colder is better for light fluffy snow.

Well the forecast for Sunshine village showing -40 seems to have swayed things and just going to rebook the trip for March instead. Glad to hibernate inside and not drive in this shit.

Often warmer on the hills than in the city during these cold snaps. Or it can be.

Looks like correct call. Lake Louise didnt open today at all after saying they'd just be on a lift delay.. Suspect they'll be trying hard to open tomorrow/sunday but would be generally horrible.

Was -43 at Mud Lake in Kananaskis this morning. Oof

How’s the pack holding up? I’ve been too chicken to take the split out this year with some of the conditions we’ve had.

Do it now. Conditions are great. Last weekend was 40 cents of fresh. Did it again this weekend and supposed to happen again Wednesday. March and April are where kananaskis shines

I’m on 13 days this season in the backcountry, can’t say I’ve had a bad day
