Default Garage Break In - Evergreen

    Hi Peeps,

Found out that my garage was broken into last night. Some crackhead went through my back gate last night at 4:52AM, made their way to the unopened garage door, and stole change from my car, along side with two surface laptops (Surface 5 LTE and a brand new Surface 9). This is mostly my fault for leaving the garage man-door opened and keeping things like laptops that I use for work in the car, so not too worried about, just an FYI. Fucking crackheads. Keep an eye out for them. Been living here since 2009, first time anything like this has happened, guess lesson learned.

This happened to my neighbour here in Woodbine a few days ago, but at 7.30am

In through the mandoor, took the entire contents of the fridge and freezer and a set of winter tires

I left my car open one night and they raided it, but I have nothing of value in there and they dropped $3 in change, fucking losers

Wonder where they could be coming from...

    brutal.

I find his sneaky walk somewhat comical.

This is why I just put straight fence on either side of my garage to the alley with no gate. You wanna get in my yard you gotta climb the fence. would hopefully be enough of a deterrent.

Not a solution for this but leaving the garage door plug on a switch is a great idea. If they break into the car on the outside and try and open the garage it won’t work.

I thought the same as this, but the new garage door openers have battery back up. And I don't want to flip a switch, then push the door opener.

I laughed too. What's he's thinking he's going to wake mom up?
I also did the same with my fence man door. I just put 2 large screws into the side so it's anchored and won't open.
I've had to open it once in 6 years and backed the screws out.

Cameras by my garage man doors are set to alert me any time from 11pm-6am and turn on the closet light on the bedroom.
Cameras in the garage alert me anytime.
I'm not messing around. Everything planned out if anything happens.
But also live in a well trafficked area.

They have a "Lock" button which disables all remote openers from working until the device is unlocked from the wall mount.

I do have a swing open rv gate back there, but it's got privacy slats, and the top looks like this

Crackheads are scared of large black dogs… works well

Once upon a time we had door checkers (could always see the footprints in the snow going house to house) till one night.

I happened to pass out on the couch and woke up in the wee hours of the morning, looked out the window and saw them. So I grabbed the bigger dog and waited at the door till they were on my driveway, as soon as they pulled the truck’s handle I whipped the door open, dog went nuts… I utter some words and such and boy… I have never seen shitheads move so fast

Probably helped that I still had a black LS430 on works sitting out front, but they took the threats seriously and have never been back.

Am I the only one who locks the cars even when the cars are in the garage? Like the crackhead basically got a free buffet, all doors unlocked. What an easy score for him

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Buy a kwikset wifi lock. It locks itself after a set time. I have one on my man door because it’s easily forgotten to lock. It’s also keypad in case you lock yourself out.

We dont use the OEM openers at all. We pair them to the system built into the vehicle. This requires the vehicle to be key on to work. Even when not at home, a prime target for thieves at c-train stations is to steal an opener and registration (for address) and head to your house when you aren't home.

Even though this sounds logical, I strongly suggest you test your vehicles. I’ve owned 2 where this is not the case. No key required.

I have mine connected by z-wave but all the locks I've tested are either no auto lock, or 30 seconds... there's nothing I can do to set the delay to be longer

Being z-wave there must be some time schedule or automation that can lock it.
