They've been on a rant about it on CKNW since the summer, something like 500,000 overseas students in canada. Many of them are dirt poor - whole family life savings invested to send one student to canada to hopefully get PR after school - then start working / sponsoring the rest of the family over. With the current housing crisis and very few of them attending schools with dorms, yes it's dumb. Yet we continue to allow it especially since they're allowed to work 40hrs a week for canadian businesses - because that totally ensures they get a solid post secondary education right?

Seems like just a TFW program with a lot of money thrown at private useless colleges that I'm 100% certain are totally upstanding and ensuring the education of these students meet standards.

Let's not kid ourselves. We are basically selling citizenships by making other countries paying for raising their kids for 22+ years then snatch them. Then make them work and get on the MLM pension scheme.

Immigration, without a strategy, really isn't always in our advantage unless growth can be accommodated. Our Govt doesn't plan to fail, but rather fails to plan.

Look - https://www.centuryinitiative.ca/ has some valid points, but ultimately... based on my other post, the key here is to use immigration to drive valuation of our economy and land assets, posturing Canada greater in the world economic stage.

As a whole we have accrued a significant amount of debt (2.1T) and to mitigate its significance is by driving up land assets. Its all BS when it comes down to mandates to 'building affordable housing'. Without a doubt, YES that is truly a solution, if it didn't just line the pockets of beneficiaries as this socialist, maybe communist tactic just doesn't work in a capitalistic market. The hyperbole itself also creates further volatility in the housing market.

The Govt. will likely impose more estate and transfer taxes in the swell of the great 'wealth transfer' as the boomers are now aging out. With an over-valued real-estate market, the wealth transfer itself will address a significant amount of personal and private held debts, while the govt takes its share. The YOLO - eff you lazy Millenials/GenZ boomers will likely leverage their increased assets to live out their 'dreams', and fucking over their own kids by playing the one armed bandit every day. At the least still creating economic stimulus.

NOW... immigrants. I am the son of an immigrant, and I believe in immigration, if the intent is honest and in the mutual benefit of the Country. However loopholes, loose and unenforced policies are why we see such turmoil, and why we are an easy target of those who want to exploit us. I have friends who work at CBSA and they shake their heads. Our immigration policies are so subjective and lack teeth - this is coming from a 'Brown' friend at the CBSA who can't stand how we're getting fleeced but cannot do anything about it. He todl me that IF we NOW decide to set and enforce laws and polices in a scrupulous manner, the govt is afraid it will be considered racist, because of the precedent set.

An example he's really upset with... 8-9 month pregnant Ethiopian woman, who had not applied for any status at all... has 3K in the bank and apparently is here visiting her sister in Montreal. Was told by superior officers to let her proceed.

I don't disagree. I have seen many families comes thru Bible colleges. This scam has been running for a long time. It's just gotten more brazen lately.
