All I know is that paper straws are the fucking worst. Just the worst. I've got some plastic ones in my car but you never end up having them when you need them
Paper straws suck, but nothing worse than the lame wooden forks and knives you get now. Can't cut shit and certainly can't pick anything up with the lame fork. Thankfully I know how to use chopsticks.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

As for plastic straws, lids, take-out containers, or utensils.... I'm not against banning plastic for those. Having recyclable or products that degrade quickly seems like a good idea given how much garbage people produce. The quality of my drinking experience with a paper straw and a plastic straw is negligible, and I could give a shit what a throw away fork is made of.
Fuck paper straws and utensils with wood splinters.

Know what's funny? Plastic single use utensils became commonplace because people were getting sick from shared metal utensils from those bins, despite the metal utensils being washed. Yes humanity is that disgusting.

Dairy Queen seems to have it figured out, at least the one in Shawnessy. The plastic spoons they give you with the ice cream say "not for single use" on the back, but they're the same red plastic ones they've had for 50 year. Not single use = A O K.

Is it really eating when all I can taste is essentially toothpick the whole time?

Someone smarter than me needs to make everything from bamboo. Cups, utensils, straws...the shit grows so fast and actually has some structure.

I was in SFO this weekend and every place we went to used pasta straws. They were perfect.

That exists. But bobba straw goes from 2c per for plastic to 20c per for bamboo. One of many reasons why bobba tea is like $9 these days.

    Dammit...

I accidentally bought a box of 500 oversized straws a few years back on auction.

I'm ok with that. They can make good margin and increase the drink price by 40 cents and give me a straw that doesn't collapse while trying to suck a stuck pearl. Either that or at least wax coat the damn thing as the taste of paper along with how soggy they get ruins it for me.

do they charge you extra for your reusable spoon, because you're meant to bring your own?

I thought most Beyonders have been using $100 paper straws for a long time, and not just for drinking pop.

I like that instead of using my grocery store bags as garbage bags, I'm forced into buying dedicated garbage bags that are single use.
This. I completely thought the same thing. I used to use plastic grocery bags for all sorts of uses, and now the only difference is that I need to buy them opposed to recycling them.

I also think the plastic ban in general is total virtue signaling and while it may slightly reduce plastic in the landfill, I doubt nearly any of these plastics actually make it to the ocean. That's more the kind of thing you see overseas in "developing" nations. I can guarantee you a plastic straw I used here in Alberta won't make it's way to a waterway.

Banning single use plastic has ended up just slightly more advantageous than the "scary gun ban". Which is to say, it's a program implemented which does nothing to solve the actual issue, but instead only costs Canadians even more money.

developing nations like the US? I'm no tree hugger by a long way, but it's easy to see something needs to be done to at least reduce the problem

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

But... that's not even a lot of material.

I mean we all know that LA county has almost the entire population of Canada in it.

    Right?

    Right?

    Fucking podunk.
