I saw some dude riding a crotch rocket on Deerfoot in -5C weather at 6:00 am a few weeks ago. Did not look enjoyable at all and first time I ever saw that when it was still dark out.

My friend's son died on a motorbike. First time riding one. Slipped on some gravel, crashed into a lamppost. Wasn't even a block away from his house.

Understanding hazards is so important and I wish it was mandatory in Canada that folks take a motorcycle class before getting their license. In a country where we have winter at least 6 months a year, varying road conditions, and with motorists not used to motorcycles on the road, it's a no brainer to me.

The amount of riders I see out there who would do poorly when emergency maneuvers are needed is large.

Yeah, seemed a no brainer to just take a weekend course when I got mine way back when. Definitely worth it and have recommended to a few people that later got their licenses.

That's not enough, IMO. Ideally they need to start people on honda groms, and work their way up to life size bikes haha. The worst is putting someone on a 200hp crotch rocket, or a 9000lb harley that can't take a corner, after a few days experience riding. It takes a long time to learn the limits and dynamics of different bikes.
