Hard to know if it was political but AESO had already issued their highest level of load shedding alert 2 hours prior to the phone notification going out. The AB internal load was still rising and the estorage reserves plus DCR were all almost down to 0 so it was a much worse situation than other times we've entered load shedding alerts.
It's all political; we have several EEA3s every year.

An energy-only market will run a tighter supply balance so during the extreme conditions you'll run razor thin; the fact the grid didn't fall over like Texas did a few years ago shows the market design works.

What you don't hear about is that MATL was exporting power during the events and EPCOR/ENMAX were trying to export because other jurisdictions were paying more for the power.

That sounds good eh - send out alerts warning everybody rolling blackouts are coming but let companies export out of the province because they can make more money elsewheres.

It can turn on a dime, which is exactly what happened. AESO asked for more power and BC and Sask delivered.

BC had record breaking power imports in 2023; they're going to rape the earth for more power.

wait, so are we happy that there were no rolling blackouts, or mad about it? This has gotten me confused.

Eh it works, usually give batteries a small hit for 30 mins when I know they’ve been sitting unused for a while.

I thought those things are not ideal for AGM batteries any more.

I wouldn’t leave it on there for more than 30 mins or so, or is it if the battery is dead. I usually don’t have to use that charger more than 2-3 times a year.

By the time we got an email in the building I am in (adjacent to Devon) they said there was over a foot of water and if we were in there we should go move our cars. I didn't get to see it but I'd love to know if anyone in here was parked there.

Blackouts? No need to be afraid. Someday we'll be living like in the Arctic and Your Kid will never Get Cold.

Don't get why people love living there. Any little puff of wind and half the province loses power.
