Sump for the dirty shop installed the other day…the drain in the clean shop will be tied into this.





It’s all filled in and gravel is placed…have to wait until the weekend to get daylight pics now.

And a bonus…with the bigger excavator on site, we used it to rip roots and knock down some big old trees. Way easier than with the chainsaw and no stump leftover! Have to upload the video elsewhere and then I’ll link it here.

Gravel leveled in the shop a while ago…

Took the plow truck to the city to pick up some Smart Trim that needs to go on before the overhead doors get installed…

Not sure if I mentioned it above but springs feed out of the slope behind the shop. It hasn’t been an issue the last few years but this year we are seeing quite a bit of water icing up behind the shop.

Most of the ice has been cleared away on the slope side in the pic…but you can see what we were dealing with coming in the opening for the patio door…



Cutting into the slope, adding a sump and drainage network, filter cloth, gravel and the blocks. I didn’t really want to spend money on this but it’ll really control the water, give us more space around the shop, and look nicer…

Good idea, I don't think you had any choice with the ice build up you were seeing.


On a side note, are those blocks already placed permanently? The inconsistent pattern would drive me bananas!

And the block placement is partially intentional, partially based on cost. My excavation buddy is friends with the owner of the company that supplies the blocks. He got me a ton of blocks really cheap but there are some colour inconsistencies and the arrangement is a mix of left and right hand.

I actually wanted them laid out more inconsistently but we got more righties than lefties. So it bugs me a little bit but not enough to make me spend 5 figures more to make it either completely consistent or inconsistent. Once the blocks are stained and stuff is in the patio area, that stuff will be minimized.

Center of the wall at height and getting cleaned up/backfilled. Just missing topsoil along that part of the wall. The sump is already starting to fill up with a decent amount of water…so it’s a good thing we did this setup.
