Hi my folks have a bunch of vhs, digital 8 tapes, and mini-DV tapes they'd like converted to .mp4 files.
Anyone have a suggested service in Calgary that can do this for them?
Thanks

Never tried them but London Drugs Photo Lab and Costco Photo center both offer this service.

Thanks, that's a good start.
I find their rates to be robbery though, haha. Starts at $37 per tape at Costco. $20 at London drugs down to $17 per for extra tapes. My Mom has like 40+ tapes, that'd all fit on 1 USB I'm sure.
Trying to find an economical option, asides from the time-consuming DIY option with some amazon gear.
Like you said, it's time consuming. So how much is your time worth?
LD is your best local bet.

Just find a good capture device for probably under $100 and assuming you already got the working playback devices for your tapes, the rest is just your time.
Plus you don't have to worry about sharing accidental porn with randoms.
Not in Calgary but if your ever in Edmonton these are the go to guys here

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.
$30 per hr of footage is a lot worse than LD's $20 per tape. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
On a similar note......my grandparents had many old pictures albums from them as children/growing up and I would love to scan all of them to make digital copies.....these places do that too? Would be a bonus if they added the note on the back of who and what year. Any recommendations for that one??
We had some done at Bestech last year. I don't recall the cost, but they did a good job. I was gonna diy, but my VCR quit, and I decided I didn't want to deal with the hassle.
I did this with all of our pictures myself. I know google has document scanning option with their smartphones, where you can just take a picture of the picture and it will trim it for you. I did a bunch of pictures with a scanner, and bought a little slide scanner to do all the slides. It was a fun experience, but not for everyone. Takes a while, but cool to see old pics you probably would not have looked at otherwise. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

You'd at least weed out a lot of shitty 'thumb in the way' pics among other dead weight and be left with a worthwhile collection. Not all Kodak moments are worth keeping. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
