I just hit our sliding patio door which was nearly frozen shut with a fan for a couple hours and ice build up is all gone.

Yeah fan is the answer. Don't chip. You think you are being careful until you a) scratch the window, B) peel the paint off the frame, C) damage the seal or D, which is my favouite, all three.

D. melt the ice with a hair drier and break the glass, like my sister did last winter.
That too. People need to settle the fuck down and not make the situation worse.

I throw alcohol on it. If that doesn't work fast enough, I try vinegar + bleach while blowing on the window with deep, powerful, gasping breaths.
Got rid of the ice, didn't it?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
People could also try being homeless and living in a box. No windows, no problems.
Tap, Rack, BANG!
Tried to lick it?

Nice to see triple pane windows are worthwhile.
Although I remembered that the windows surrounding my front door are lower quality. Turned a fan on those for an hour this morning.

Fuck, one of our windows cracked last night. Couple inches from the edge. Luckily it’s the slider portion so should be an easier and cheaper fix.
There was no ice build up near this so no idea. Almost looks like it cracked on the inside face of the pane of glass.
