Was literally Japan when I was there over the winter break.

Everything is individually wrapped to excess, and as long as it is combustible, you can throw it in the bin. Plastic burns, so you are good!

I was wondering how they dealt with non-combustible waste... and then I saw in the early morning people just throwing bags of garbage and tires and stuff into the river. I kind of expected that in China, but I guess this is still commonplace in Japan too.
They are either nazi about their garbage or don't give a shit. There is no happy middle.

Osaka is finally getting public bins preparing for the 2025 EXPO and the increased tourist. Will see how long that last.

Heck, my Korean neighbor burn their garbage in backyard when they were FOBs a decade or so back. I told them you can't do that, especially those treated 2x4s pieces has toxic smoke.

When I was in Orlando in about 15 years ago there was no deposit on bottles or cans and they needed two garbage collection days per week.
While that's not that recently, it's not like it was the time of Mad Men ad agencies. I'm heading back this year, so I'll be sure to update.
    Can confirm.

Plus if all a the trash doesn’t actually fit into the bin, just pile it on/around/near and they’ll scoop it up. They pretty much accept anything in the “recycling” bins too so it’s three days of regular trash pickup. Really large items like furniture will disappear in a day or two if taken to the curb (or last resort a call is made and the city will pick it up for you).

Am I the only one that either pours acetone on my styrofoam, or melts it with a propane torch, so that it takes up almost no room in my black cart?
Tell me you're not Asian without telling me you're not Asian...

you spend money to buy acetone for your garbage?

For those out of the loop, the lack of bins in Japan isn't due to not caring about garbage, it was a knee-jerk reaction to the 1995 sarin gas attack and they just never really put them back afterwards. Similar reason why bins are relatively rare in London, it was a reaction to IRA bombings.

IIRC there's not a single trashcan on the underground system anymore, they were few and far between after the IRA bombings and then removed completely after 7/7/2005 happened

Breaking news: Ordered take out for pick up. Didn’t ask for a bag. Charged me a bag. Didn’t tip.

Don't give businesses more ideas. Increase bag costs and remove tip option.

    Clearly you don't restaurant.

I got curious when I went because there's a shit ton of plastic for a bento box. They burn all their garbage to generate electricity!
