On the radio this morning Breckenridge stated they'll talk about the parental rights issue. He made the claim the ucp will ban abortions next.

    What a douche.
It is a gameplay to discredit conservatives for sure... Keep parroting the past hot button issues hoping to make one of the loonier contingent start beaking off smearing the everyday normal conservatives with the same brush.

This type of discussion being a priority in society is a leading indicator of impending WW3.
So should I go buy bulk 308 then?

So if a kid is named James and wants to go by Jimmy instead, he needs to request permission from the school administrator, they send forms home, and the parents need to approve so his friends can call him Jimmy at school?

If the kid wants the report card and forms to say Jimmy, yes.

Who would want to be called Jimmy? His hat would always be made fun of.

Less time for math when you need to make sure you’re following government directives on disclosing pronouns to parents.

Nothing is stopping a parent, shitty or otherwise, from having conversations or opening up dialogues between parents and their kids
But the math... how will they have time for doing math!! You already said they didn't have time to disclose pronouns to their parents.... now you want them to have a whole conversation?

Clearly, in the name of efficiency... a form is more streamlined option here. Then little Timmy/Tina/Timaleana can have 10 minutes more for math in their whole life.

I don't think anyone is going to be sending home forms for nick names

however, if James wanted to formally change his name to Jimmy and have it show up on his report cards and other documentation as his new legal name... IMO the parents should probably be informed.

This isn't about a legal name change and it doesn't need to extend to report cards or documentation. If a teacher is doing roll call to see who is present or call on a kid to answer a question they now would need to stick to your legal name. If you want it shortened, or called Jimmy, or CJ, or whatever then they need to have forms filled out by parents. That's how the policy works.

Unless somebody is trying to make a point, nobody is going to get fussed about a nick name

This is literally trying to address the problem that Jimmy goes to school, then goes to his lockers and changed into a dress and demands to be called Jina. Parents should not notified for sure

One of the things I am waiting to see is if all this sexualization of kids results in kids being brainwashed into thinking they are trans or gay long before their sexuality emerges, and the resulting phycological damage that results from that.

It's not though. You're allowing what's convenient in your eyes even though nicknames would be against the policy. And then you're justifying it by hyperbolizing the situation. The policy has nothing to do with dress codes.

I'm just pointing out I think it's a stupid policy that hasn't been thought through much like our cities bag policy. Stop passing stupid fucking micromanagement laws. That's all.

Even from the article, the people pushing these policies are batshit.

“This weekend begins a new age in Alberta, the age of democracy,” he said from the convention.

“After this AGM, the grassroots of the UCP will be in charge.

“Those who do not listen to the grassroots or attempt to thwart their involvement in the decision-making process, will be removed from power.”

I won't disagree that it sounds onerous, but at the same time, involving parents in raising their kids seems like common sense to me

I generally expect that this will be supported strongly by parents

My wife is genuinely terrified that is even going to come up because of recent cases in the US.

I know we're the Texas of the North, but I just cannot see that ever happening.

This topic came up at 11pm before going to bed last night - today is not going so great.

Pheoxs - i guess kids dont get to use nick names without permission then. It is what it is....

If that's the unintended consequence for schools demanding secrecy from parents then so be it.

Don’t confuse short name for nickname.

Why should it be any more a schools decisions what a kids nickname is than what their post deadname or out name or whatever we call them is?

If I enroll my kid in school and tell the school this is my kids name that is what I expect them to be called until told otherwise.

It’s only onerous if you approach this from the bizarre angle that schools need to be social experiments, when what they are is a place for kids to go and get a fucking education.

Here's a sample of the posts you'll see from @chanLPfa hence why I think Alberta's legislation is good. Are these kids in grade one or two?

It's a good eye opener to see what's going on in schools across Canada and amongst all age groups.

There's a reason they want to ban phones in school these days.

It may have been brought up, but the funniest part of the backlash and outcry against this is from the same people who were HEAVILY criticizing the "my body my choice" crowd who were against covid vaccines.

Can't have it both ways princess...
