Thanks for all the suggestions guys. We're really looking for something that's kind of stand-alone though, with a restaurant on site. Avoiding people/crowds is my favorite vacation hobby.

Might check our Emerald Lake Lodge. Anyone been there?
Cypress Hills. Only humans I saw were the hotel staff.

Ainsworth is 7 hours away. If you're willing to do a 6 hour trip there's Destiny Bay. You will see no one but the other guests and the owners.

Yeah a lot of great suggestions in this thread that are pretty far from local. Cranbrook / Kimberley / Revelstoke / Jasper is about the end of "local", IMHO, even if they are all past the requested 4 hour distance.

Does Engadine Lodge count as "stand-alone"? There will be other people there, but it's basically a closed site (i.e. open for guests only) and it's small. You will have to interact with others at dinner though, as a few tables are "group seating" (but they mix them up every night). They have a few individual tables too, but no guarantees on reserving them if you're feeling antisocial. Enjoyed my stay there about a year and a half-ago.
Holy shit that sounds like my nightmare.

Ya, that cramming strangers in together is bullshit. Went to the comedy club at Blackfoot recently and was highly annoyed at how close everyone was.

Holy fuck can you wrap your mind around what would happen if there was a fire in there?!? I doubt they are obeying code.

I said the exact same thing lol trying to get out after the show was a nightmare.

4 of us at a table for 2, with a pizza, wings, nachos and around 20 drinks all at once.....food and drinks on the floor and setup on other people's tables, it was crazy. Sorry for the derail lol

We go there a fair bit as we always get free tickets. If you get enough to just get an entire table to yourself on the side it's fine. We never sit in the middle though.

There's at least 3 (maybe 4?) sets of emergency exit doors in there. One by the stage, one back left in the corner, then the main entrance. And I think another by the bathrooms but that might just be to the kitchen.

Have you been for a bigger act that's sold out, though? K. Trevor Wilson was elbow to elbow, as was Ryan Long (although I was at one of the more expensive front tables for that one).

Nipika Mountain Resort is one of my favourite winter places to visit. Very little if any cell coverage. Close to radium if you need anything. And quiet.

No, it's worse. It's at The Blackfoot! LoL!!!

I think it's like $50/ticket instead of maybe $35 ? Plus, you might get roasted by the comic so that's another potential detractor.

Could try Elk Lake Cabin. Little under 5 hours away. In winter you need to snowshoe/ski to the cabin though from the parking lot.

Stayed there pre-covid during winter, it was ok but didn't think it was worth it unless you want to stay in a cabin with fireplace, read a book or watch an old movie on the tv.
there was no cell signal or wifi in the cabins except at the main lodge.
    restaurant was ok too.

Emerald Lake is incredibly sentimental to us, but it's just such horrendous value and the cabins all are in need of serious repair. Nevermind the fact that if you don't seriously splurge, you may end up being on the bottom floor of a building with people above you. In 100 year old cabins. I couldn't even imagine.

Engadine and Storm I have not visited but heard great things. The individual cabins, excellent meal service and animal-friendly rooms at Storm have it as our next local splurge place.

Of course you could AirBnB something in Invermere/Fairmont, we were just out there a couple of weeks ago. Really relaxing going skating on the lake, little pubs/distilleries/breweries, this tasty and quirky German restaurant, hot springs.

Emerald is getting a much needed renovation this year, heard it's going to be pretty big. I love that place but absolutely agree that the cabins are extremely dated. My favorite place is the Post Hotel in Lake Louise. Great pool, lovely spa, skating rink right outside with an ice bar. The food is really really good (dare I say the best in Banff?). Just make sure to get a room with a fireplace for a little extra charm.
