Weird. Does he not want you holding a title like "manager" when you will in fact be...managing?

From the sounds of it, he just needs to be the "owner" and you should be the "operations manager".

He is OK with General Manager. I'll discuss Operations Manager or Director of Operations. Also, Superduperintendent needs to be in the running.

Maybe he recognizes that despite being the owner he has limitations and that is why he hired himself a boss to manage the business?

Not in this case. He's still my boss, but I think he understands he needs a buffer between him and the general workforce. We work well together, I'm pretty detailed and he is a good big picture guy.
