China (and likely our government) has the ability track all of their people using facial recognition tech and the do this. The tech is there, just not the political will to use this tech to identify people perpetrating property crime (which to be clear, I never want to see used in Canada but it is likely just a matter of time - ill trade a broken car window and lost ray bans regularly for the *perception* of freedom).

i was talking with my insurance company and due to my house value, they require a monitored home security service... so self monitoring is out of the question... which service would you use?

Does it need to be monitored by a company or is a a central monitoring system sufficient? From what I gathered when I looked into it back when having a couple individual wyze cams you can look at wasn't enough to be considered a home security system but an actual networked system with something like blue iris that pushes notifications to your phone was sufficient.

The best home security is a sign that says
"These premises are protected by 00 Buckshot"

I wouldn't suggest insurance fraud. I would suggest contacting touchstone for another opinion.

They require it? OR They require it to be monitored to get the discount on the policy. Same same, but different.

I am currently switching from Telus (that was previously Vivint) to a Wyze system. You can get a monitored package thats quite affordable and their gear is reasonably priced. They will qualify for the premium reduction from your insurer.

Also a plug for systems in general, my self monitored Telus system saved my ass tens of thousands of dollars two days ago when my moisture detector alerted me that i had water in my basement. Instead of going to bed when I had under an inch and letting it grow overnight, i was notified promptly and prevented a pretty huge insurance claim (speaking of premiums..). I dont really care if its monitored or what, just get something to monitor for water!

How deep are you going into the Wyze system? Looks like you can do smart home, thermostat and temp sensors, cameras, all additional security addons... I dont know anyone using them to ask how it all works together.

I'm looking at options myself. Also ripping out an old Vivint system.
I can eat more hot wings than you.

I am pretty deep so far I suppose. 6 Cameras, 1 Door Bell, 2 T-stats, 12 Bulbs, 2 Switches, 2 Plugs. I actually tie it together with my Telus gear through HomeAssistant to blend the security with automation. I am going to go all in with Wyze shortly. The main thing holding me back was their locks. I need remove operation with a local key bad and their lock offerings are kind of weird. They have local access but not online or online and no local access.

If you have telus smart security and the gear is working well and off contract you can negotiate with retentions for a good deal on their best monitored package. I am currently nearing year 2 of a 5 year contract for their top of the line monitored system with 4 cameras + door bell + fire/smoke and only paying $20/month. Even had them replace the door bell free of charge when it died in -40 last winter. The Telus monitored certificate did save me $180 on my home policy so basically paid for its self.

i negotiated parents non monitored 3 camera system with thermostat and garage opener down to $15/month for 5 years back in January.
