concrete slab and a giant garage door versus landscaped green space and architecture.

Yea I can’t imagine why anyone would take issue.

Also building codes and municipal guidelines have nothing to do with covenants. Building code would have allowed it, the covenant going back 70 years to CP rail is what excluded it.

You can apply for amendments/relaxations depending on what the change is. For example, encroachments, retaining walls, heights, etc.

I love our alley. Would be better if I could get it paved.

Get all the neighbors to agree to split the cost for it to be paved.

Next big project will be in Lakeview Village though, excited for that.

Ya, I don't have the time, or enough neighbors who would go for it. It would be close, but I think I'd fall short on the signatures. Plus, I got the package a couple years ago to inquire....the cost is so crazy compared to what it should cost. Don't get me wrong, I'd still cover my portion and be thankfull.

A good article on restrictive covenants

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...lity-1.6974306

I think what is going to happen is a lot of these covenants have dates on them which are about to expire.

Those that don’t have dates will be challenged by the city.

Probably why the city has decided to propose this blanket rezoning idea.

The city ain't gonna do shit to restrictive covenants on private properties. The article is clear, the land owner gets to deal with them.

Private property is a legal designation for the ownership of property by non-governmental legal entities. Private property is distinguishable from public property, which is owned by a state entity, and from collective or cooperative property, which is owned by one or more non-governmental entities.

Pretty sure we pay our property taxes to the city. I wonder what would happen if you decided not to pay?

That's a big reason I like my hood. Paved alleyway that's ~25 feet wide gives plenty of space and also separation from the neighbours on the otherside. It's also a lot nicer walking around laned neighbourhoods as people generally have larger front lawns and no cars half blocking the sidewalk because they're idiots.

    Uhhhh. Cool story bro.

Define how the City of Calgary is going to give a fuck and help you discharge a restrictive covenant on title that says you can only have chain link fence on your property?

Did you read the article you posted, or are you waiting for the Tik Tok coles notes version to tell you what it all means?

LOL, not sure why you are so hostile.

Big changes are being suggested, and I have a feeling it will happen.

You can puff your chest all you want but in the end, there won’t be much residents can do about it.

Move to a rural neighborhood I guess haha.

    Hostile? Jeeze.

You're right... residents generally can't do anything about restrictive covenants on their private property.

In which case don't post an article that says exactly this and then tell people the City will challenge them... cause they wont.
