There has to be a joke about Dr.’s writing legibility in here somewhere…

As a kid I had to get a blood test done one time for who knows what reason (too skinny was the cause I bet). I showed up to the lab. They laughed and said "we can't read this shit" and turned me away. From that day on I promised I would not be that guy. One decade in, I have not become that guy.............................................................yet.

If its illegible, the insurance company/government may request I do it again. That costs me time. Time is money. Etc.
If I am getting lazy with doing a form, I have found my writing gets really really GIANT. Lines mean little. I will write all over that shit. Feels so good man

@nismodrifter that jinhao is super cool. I find them in general to be great bang for the buck. Of course I end up mostly using my MB or Caron d'ache or Monteverde/Montegrappa mostly. I like that Kaweco.

My Caran d'ache arrived.
I can understand the people who are underwhelmed by this pen, it's certainly small and unimposing.

Here it is beside my Uni-ball Jetstream 101, which in my opinion is the finest disposable pen in existence. I buy these in 1.0mm tip, and blue ink, and they are superb.
The Caran D/Ache is a 849.210 model, green, obvs. Was $31.21 on amazon.

The Cda is what I'd call a "gentlemen's pen."


I'd be interested in trying the 849 rollerball AKA the 849 XL.

While the entire 849 line is rather underwhelming, the rollerball is probably the most acceptable one. While the ballpoint seems like good value, it’s too small in hand, at least for me. And the fountain pen has a horrendously mediocre nib, and the grip section doesn’t lend to comfort while writing. I very briefly had one and donated it to charity auction.

Aside, I’m happy to see this new thread. I’ll be back to share.

849 is my favorite pen ever. I've got a few of the ecridor models which are the silver plated ones and a bit heavier. THe key to this pen is to hack a gel parker style rollerball refill. Just need to change the spring and you are golden.

Okay... I am one who hand cramps with even the smallest amount of writing. I hold my pen all fucked up too. Teachers hated me in school because half way through the first page of anything written it just turned to shit and was non-legible. Will a fountain pen help me improve? I have always wanted to write more but loathe doing so...

Traditionally fountain pens are said to be better for handwriting and teach people how to write well so in theory yes, a fountain pen should help you. That being said, not sure how 'fucked up' your writing is to begin with cause it's no magic. Haha.

My writing is still shitty regardless of the pen I use, but with fountain pens, it makes be a little more careful and write a little slower so it looks a bit better.

Ya for some reason, my writing becomes a little more deliberate (not slow though) when I'm using a fountain pen. I prefer them.

It is a bit slower, have to have pen angled appropriately etc. So it could possibly help. But my writing also turns to shit after a sentence or two.

Get a Lamy Safari with a medium nib and try it out.

Tirebob - same affliction here. I was taught to write by a left hander facing me, so I hold my pen all fucked up like a lefty does, but I'm writing from the "right" side of the page.

I wanted to get into calligraphy as I have an aunt who has a small biz doing that, and it was also so cool. Ya, it was like trying to teach a chimp how to draw a circle or a straight line, absolutely hopeless.

I do dig cool pens. Friend has a biz making "defense" pens, which is the next step up from useless, however there is a large market of people who buy such things.
