I've noticed a drop in material quality in the last 5 years or so from the brand. I wouldn't say 'bad', but definitely not as good I was used to from 958/991 series cars.
I couldn’t disagree more, I have had a 991, Currently a Taycan and a 992 on the way and would say quality from Porsche is top of its class and the 992 is much better in all ways as far as interior fit and finish goes

Is there any angle here where you can just use fully electric forced induction (skip the exhaust turbo) so we can have the exhaust note of NA with the boost of a turbo?

I guess would sound more like a supercharged car? But run off an electric motor instead of the crank.

I could get on board with that.

You're going back 10 or 15 years of posts on here. Toma was all about that back then, one of his friends was building one in low boost form. I said it wouldn't work out, the energy required to keep that going for long periods of time and enough usable boost far outweigh the energy storage costs to do so. Typically takes 50-200hp to drive a compressor (something like 15-20% of total engine output, roughly). Cheaper to use crank energy (supercharger) or even better wasted exhaust energy (turbo). These new systems just bridge the gap (lag) with electric power, while charging itself by acting as a waste gate and harnessing exhaust energy. Using waste energy to spin the compressor, while using remaining wasted energy to solve lag. Win-win.

My E53 has an electric supercharger you described. Relatively low powered. Can only really give meaningful boost at idle rpms, which then switches its flow to the turbine at high rpms to minimize boost a little. It doesn't do the job nearly as well as the e-turbo setup.

edit - here you go. old school setup with some dyno results.

Thought I posted in there, I must've talked about the shortcomings in person and not here.

Anyone ever in contact with Toma? Has he mellowed out or is he still consumed by politics?

I mean he goes off his meds every once in a while and comes back, I’d anticipate a flare up in the fall with the US presidential election around the corner.
