Calgary Flames MEGA THREAD 2024-2025 Edition

Interesting tilt last night with the oilers. The Edmonton game had drai McDavid and Bouchard playing their regular double shifts but they weren’t really trying. Kinda odd they wouldn’t give more ice time to the prospects seeing as the whole point is to evaluate them during pre season. And the split squad really shows how weak oilers are in terms of prospects. Most of those kids aren’t even close to nhl 4th line caliber, unless they also weren’t trying.

Flames are gonna get rocked in regular season, but we may have some wildcards coming up in the prospect pool. Some of the kids looked solid.

The ice time deployment for the Oilers was fascinating...

I like the direction the Flames are taking drafting speed and skill.
Its been evident over the training camp.
Lots of competition.

I think the Flames will surprise some teams this year, but I expect a bottom 10 finish again.

There is something poetic about the flames scoring 6 goals and the oilers losing by 6 goals. The shitty thing is this is likely foreshadowing for finishing just outside of the playoffs and not getting a good pick - as per usual Calgary Flames hockey. Honzek looked good, we got a good one with him if he can maintain that pace

This is pretty much it. The pairing of Deharnais and Forbort is highly suspect. (As many expected).

I totally get the "towering defensemen" direction, but it's kinda important they can play hockey too...

Forbort is a great 7th defenseman. If he's move much up your lineup from that slot, it's not a good sign.

all these kids on cheap contracts you can't duplicate that early hunger so hopefully huska manages them properly to keep the energy up
best case scenario a repeat of 14-15 but who knows right

And the best part is the Flames still have ~$19m in cap space they can hopefully weaponize at the trade deadline.
Take on some expiring contracts and take all of the 1sts.
