Have you seen any of the Dacia products?

Renault is bad, but it gets worse

Even Skoda are better these days
    Lol do you remember Proton?
After VW took Skoda over, they actually made some pretty good cars. It was basically a VW but cheaper.

A good mate of mine actually had a couple of Proton Satria GTis, one had a 4G63 in it

You can tell sitting in Skodas where the money has been saved vs. the equivalent VW/Audi vehicle, same as the SEAT also, but to a slightly lesser degree

A decade plus of VQ35's and VQ37's in Allah-Damned every type of vehicle they pumped out with virtually zero issues is pretty amazing. That engine is the Chevy Small Block of Japan. People turbo'd them to +70% of their normal HP rating all day, every day with zero upgrades and zero issues.
Their accomplishments from '03 to about '15 were fairly significant, and that's without considering the R35 GTR which honestly dusted* cars that cost 4x for several years.

*Personally, I believe that most of this was due to some advanced process controls systems that mastered Launch Control well ahead of their peers, but nonetheless, Nissan did it. Not Ferrari. Not Porsche, etc.

I think that the term "Japanese Chrysler" is somewhat accurate and I don't see why that's not a compliment. They made decent looking, fast cars that were vastly cheaper than their immediate competition and weren't piles of shit 5 years after.

But sorry, I forgot to be Calgary enough...

If you worry about CVT reliability, you basically wiped most Asian models off your shopping list, especially lower cost ones.

Toyota CVT has launch gear. This may have reduced reliability issues. The current RAV4 and Corolla has been using them for 5+ years and they sell more of these per year combined than F150s. If they are as bad as Nissan's, we would have heard it by now.

Just change fluid more frequent than prescribed interval if you are really paranoid.
The gas non-hybrid version of the RAV4 still has a conventional 8 speed slush box. To be fair the “eCVT” in the hybrid is a not a traditional CVT with pulleys and a belt.

I'm almost sure eCVT and Direct Shift CVT are 2 different lines transmissions.

Didn't know RAV4 gas has a normal 8 speed. Thought they would just use the DSCVT from Corolla.

Nissan was great from late 80s to early 00s. Then like mr. penis said, the R35 was the post-00s exception for an amazing car.

They are now certainly the japanese chrysler, and yes that's a major insult because chrysler products present well, but are absolute shit.

Being compared to Chrysler never has, nor will ever be a compliment.
