    Default Travel Compensation...

Anyone gone through the claim process for compensation from Air Canada lately ?

I just went through a week long adventure of delayed / missed / cancelled flights on a trip back east.

Only 1 of the 4 scheduled flights were on time. Once was cancelled entirely resulting in me spending the night on a bench in Montreal (YUL).

Did you book with a credit card with trip interruption benefits?

I used it a ton when flights were delayed all the time during post-covid and it was a very easy claim process. Reimbursed for hotel, meals, etc...

Used a bunch or Aeroplan points for business class on all flights.

Only 1 went as scheduled. Lost baggage, flight delays , flight cancellations , cabin downgrades...you name it.

I've put in requests through westjet something like 8 times. Only 1 of those received compensation.

Even when plane wouldn't start and we were delayed 5+ hours then flight cancelled and booted out overnight, had to book taxi from YYC to YEG and got 0 compensation.

Had one where they forgot to close the potable water fill door on the dreamliner so we got delayed 4 hours out of heathrow, missed the connection in YYC causing a total delay of like 7 hours. got denied as delay was due to "safety". come on.

Also no luck otherwise ever with airline compensation.

Couple years ago going to Hawaii the WJ flight was delayed so much that even the airport washroom was closed by the time we got our bags. Car rental closed so had wait over an hour to pay $$ taxi to get to hotel at 3am, then taxi back to airport next day to pick up the car + paid a late/no-show fee.

Same trip leaving Hawaii WJ delayed the evening flight and moved it to 9am the next day (which was delayd again after). Apparently the flight from YYC was delayd and the crew already used up their allowable flying hours??

The meal voucher coupons they handed out didn't work at any of the restaurants in the airport and people weren't getting put in an hotel unitl ~2am. Luckily we actually had our hotel room for an extra night cause so we didn't have to kill time with 2 young kids after checking out, and we were able to claim that extra night through credit card trip interruption insurance.

Westjet didn't provide any compensation otherwise even after reaching out. I was hoping for even a 25% off next booking coupon lol

I’d rather cross the country by horse and wagon through untamed aboriginal territory, than fly in Canada. Stress and dependability wise.

Air passenger rights canada Facebook group has all the info you'll need to determine if your owed compensation. It all starts with what the cause of the delay was and if it was in the airlines control.

From there how long of a delay determines what your owed.

If they are paying on time, civil suit won't be needed.

Airlines are going to be like:

Mechanical issue: Blame the unions / government. Demand they give you some money

Act of God - hit up a church/religion for some of that sweet forgive me money for I have sinned cash.

We just got compensated by WestJet for clothes we had to buy in Hawaii because our luggage didn’t make it to our destination until 2 days after our arrival.

They paid us $1000 for clothes we purchased. Took two weeks to get the money.
