Default assisted living and other accomodation options for a senior?

I thought we had a thread on this, but didn't find. If you know where that thread is please link to it.

Looking to learn more about options for a senior who is getting a bit old to be living in a house on their own. No major health issues yet, but pretty low energy. Still mentally sharp.

    I assume you're looking locally?
We have our Grandpa in a pretty great facility in St. Albert that I can provide insight on if not.

Homecare stopping by 3-4 times a day plus meals on wheels? If you want them to remain in house.
Maybe a doorbell cam to monitor if needed.

Yeah, I'm looking for options locally in North-central Calgary for my mom. She lives in Huntington currently. Right close to Cancer Man actually.
I'm not sure she knows what she wants. I think an apartment in a larger building would cover like 90% of her issues right now. She hates having people come and "help her", but it's also a bit much for her to be shoveling snow and cutting the lawn and cleaning a whole house. So that's kind of an impasse right now.
She's got some social stuff, and not sure she wants much more, but having some similar aged people around might be a good thing. She can argue with them for entertainment.

I have an older family friend who lives at Silvera right beside Cactus club on Barlow. He has a one bedroom condo there and he gets all his meals cooked with assisted living but they do also offer independent living there as well. Not sure on price but he says its great.

my Grandpa spent his last days in fully assisted living at Bethany. It was not cheap but it also was not the greatest.

There's a location in Shouldice too. Also close to a Cactus place of sorts.

Grandpa was there on free living side. A place to sleep for him, he was always socializing. Older place, not updated. But then a fully assisted side too if and when needed.
Downside is walks in evening can be risky (but where in Calgary is it really safe for elderly walks?).
His vehicle was always getting vandalized or tampered with by the hooligans in the area. This was 20+ yrs ago too.

I will look into this Silvera thing. I will obviously be talking to her and the rest of the family about options and opinions.

I don't have any recommendations, but my wife works in long term care as an RN for the last 15 years here in Canada, if you have any specific questions I can ask her. She works at AgeCare Glenmore Facility

Hey since I've recently gone through this with my 92-year-old mother and moved her from a independent living seniors complex to a retirement residence I have some experience in this. If you need more information PM me and I can help you out.

Watching here as well. Mom is in Vancouver, she is 85. Sister is minutes away. Mom had a stroke last year and this week I will visit (was there twice in September and once this May). She is going thru depression. Resisting on senior home or care Center.

I think at least we have figured out what mom is hoping for. No medical needs but wants food and room cleaning and some social stuff in a single building. I think she's hoping to be somewhere that more arrives are available as she needs them. She's 80 so not getting any younger.

Check out the Venvi Living facilities. There a a few around town. My mother is in one and is very happy with the accommodations, services, and staff.

Planning to be at the Venvi Edgemont location open house this weekend to try and learn a little more.

Had one question that y'all might know. Do these places help with transport for medical appointments etc or is that all taxi/uber on your own?

They do have a shuttle that they use on a regular basis and if not scheduled you can use it for some appointments within a certain range. The other nice thing is that they have lab appointments nearly every week to do blood testing and minor lab testing.
