Default Desk phone with a sim card.

Further to my other discussions of my mom going to a seniors home, I wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on a desk phone that uses a sim card not a landline or VoIP. This is a woman who's literally never owned a computer or cellphone, so this cannot look or feel like a computer to her. I considered the largest android phone I could find in some kind of docking station. But would prefer a traditional home landline handset feeling.

    Other ideas?

They used to have a rotary one that was super bad ass. That was years ago pre Covid when I hunted them down for someone.

Yes, no Canadian networks support it anymore

Apparently Rogers are phasing out 3G starting next year too

I think so long as it can support VoLTE you'll be good for a decade or more...LTE isn't going anywhere for a while

That's fine, my mom has never texted and I don't think she wants to. Although I should probably ask her. Just buying a big android phone would be easy as hell and then she could leave notes using signal or whatever. Her kids already use that.

Have you looked at just using an iPhone but enabling the old people mode (assistive access).

My Grandma hated when we gave her a cell phone (old flip phone) for two reasons:

    1) It never had battery - she'd forget to charge it
    2) Can't find it - she'd forget to bring it when leaving the house or it would get lost in the house

Something you can plug in the wall that looks like a regular phone is the play here. However that phone rings or dials out is none of their concern.
