A lot of this falls under the "it depends " category. Many manufacturers band together and develop the technology together. One manufacturer will use something and the other one won't.
Yeah, lots of different approaches being tried out right now. That's why I used words like "some" or "many" and gave some examples in parentheses.

    That’s a good thing.

The last decade of everyone making the same thing has been boring as fuck

If you’re gonna be a tech, you might as well do EV… have seen multiple Tesla tech income docs… all $150k+ (one was about $210k). Cleaner work too

I have had the benefit of repairing vehicles before any type of electric vehicle was mass produced. It has been fun seeing the industry change. Not many technicians have the desire to learn EV. The same thing happened when fuel injection took over. The ones that refused to adapt got pushed out.

This is a trade of passion. You repair vehicles because you like them, and enjoy puzzles and problem solving. Every single technician that I have met that chases money, is just miserable. There is a big technician shortage, shop owners are trying to throw money at a problem that money won't solve. I have worked with the $200 000 a year technician, they are a stranger to their family.

The Tesla dealer here, has had a revolving job ad for years.

The ad was written by some HR dickface that has no idea what it is like to work in a shop. Section 609 refrigerant handling is not even applicable to Canada. With no mention of Canadian automotive technician licenses. This does not show me the grass is greener.

Last year Rivian invited me to a webinare recruitment tech talk thing. I'm assuming they were trying to find technicians before they opened their dealer here. I actually kinda liked what they had to offer. If I ever decide to go the dealer route, it would probably be with them.

But isn't the whole point of PHEV that running out of battery is a non-issue? Like, if you only run out of battery a few times a month on your normal city chores, then that's about perfect?
Yes. My friend drives a plug-in hybrid Panamera and gets around 2200-2500 km of range out of a tank of fuel for city driving. Who cares about highway, that's where fuel comes in. That's amazing.
