    Default Bill of Sale Info

Do people actually put accurate information about the seller in the Bill of Sale? I have come across some folks that had one name used in their email and the bill of sale had a totally different name. The address also doesn't appear to be a residence but a commercial property - doesn't the registry care or you can fill out whatever you like? Is the onus on the buyer to verify all of the seller's info?

In my experience, the registry doesn't care, unless something about the car info has been messed up. The last car I bought, it was the seller who added the Vin to the BOS, and I didn't double check it. The lady at the registry more or less told me that it didn't matter who signed it, as long as the car info was correct.

its all fun and games until the police knock on your door one day because the beater you sold for $500 was used in the commission of a crime, never got reregistered, and they have never heard of the guy on your bill of sale.

I've had napkins used as a bill of sale. Registry doesn't care. They only want to see some of the important information and care nothing about the rest.

Alberta is amazing. Anything is a bill of sale of you say it is. I remember when the bargain finder had a bill of sale printed in it. Bought more than one car with that.

I showed up with the registration slip from an out of province car and the Registries Lady grabbed a blank BoS form to start filling out the guy's name on it.
I told her I had one and it was all filled out, signed and double-witnessed and she said "oh - that'll save us some time"...

I'm told by an old cop that there was a period of time in the 70's when something like 80% of the stolen vehicles in North America had an Alberta Registration in their history because this "system" is not a system.

I forged one once for a vehicle where the owner was not in town. Now I had the selling owners verbal permission, but there's no way to verify that. Just don't sign both parts at the desk inside the registry, and that's about all the stealth required.

Power move is to forge the Seller's signature and make your signature be SKR's avatar.

No forging here, a verbal ok is all that’s needed for someone else to sell your vehicle for you in Alberta.
