These fuckers like all others always hook people in and then start hiking the prices.
Ever since I got Youtube Premium I realized YouTube music is just as good and works flawlessly in my cars through CarPlay, so I would cancel Spotify personally if the wife wasn't so hooked on to it.
For what I use it for, YouTube Premium is better value for me. I used to have Spotify, but YouTube has ability to listen to custom fan made rap mixes and songs (long live 2PAC with all your new releases..)...so I use that now and love it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. use a student email or setup an account in the homeland, just like everyone here is doing with youtube
Whoa, I have to look into YouTube Music now.
Youtube Premium also serves no ads for videos. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Family plan is $23/mth and can be shared with 5 people.
Way more random stuff and remix etc.
Well, we are about to print money again and given everything has inflated 30% the last 2 years, you really can't blame them if they need to keep investors happy. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Did youtube music get better? Because it used to suck. I was a hardcore google music guy back in teh day, when they got rid of that we tried to use youtueb music, but it was horrific. Spotify has been great since then.

I'll be a Spotify die-hard to the end, like a blind Apple fanboi. Their algorithm for finding new music is unmatched.

sigh.... I got used to it. And I run that on iPhone now. lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
In the end things sorta transfer over fine. Quality is alright but I don't have any reference other than listening to the same song on Spotify in my BIL's Tesla a few times. They don't sound that much different but I'm not a HiFi nerd.
Youtube Music sucks here. You find a song, it guess the genre but it'll stuck in that same loop of suggestion of 10-20 songs forever without fanning out. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Let's just be happy their prices aren't in gold. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
To be fair, $13 isn't that bad. It's 11€ in Spain ($16.50) and the average Spanish salary is half of that of a Canadian.

Yup, nothing compares to their discovery playlists. They are raising family group rate too but it's still around $45/year split with 6 people. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Tried the YouTube Music app it it doesn't continue paying in the background when you switch apps. Basic fail right there.
Because you didn't pay. That's function is locked behind paywall because it's just copy and pasted from Youtube app. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
I pay for both, as family plans.
I recently setup "your-spotify" which ties into my account and gives me a ton of stats as well, so I started using spotify more often now.
I find that the "algorithm" on spotify for finding new music is better, but the catalog on youtube is better, due to remixes, and basically able to use any video ever.

Agreed. I discovered all the old Stretch and Bobbito rap shows from the 90's on youtube that people uploaded from cassette tapes and have been listening to those. It's all I need really as nothing beats 90's underground stuff. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I got rid of Spotify the second my premium, and supposedly ad-free, subscription started feeding me ads in the middle of Joe Rogan. I then moved to Youtube Music for quite some time. It was doing just fine until I was kind of stagnant in my playlists and were looking for new music. Regional differences from north America and the motherland had been recommending some....shit. The straw for me was when i started to get back into my SQ stereo days and the YTM's quality isn't great. For me, the value is no longer there (though i am still premium for the ad-free goodness).
I then went Apple Music. Class leading quality, a decent algo, full integration into the already invested walled garden and was a small price increase to my already paid for icloud account. Overall, i am out more monthly cash but I have no-ad youtube plus a much better streaming service for the extra cost of a XL Latte from Starbucks.
