get a cerwin vega stroker....kill most mtx's if u power it properly, sound quality not great tho
The sub you chose is the worst MTX available - they do have a good lineup (I am using MTX currently, quite happy with it). The ONLY ones I would get are the 6000 and 8000 series. The 6000 has some excellent SQ and the 8000 is just plain mean. I've used both and have been happy, except that I blew the MTX 8000 after the warranty was finished and I didn't buy extended warranty

making it up as I go along....
You muuuuust buy a stroker.
Strokers rule!! Since when do they not have good SQ? The hell? My 15's were great.
PS: strokers are picky for box size.

I like the MTX's, I have 2 MTX 61544A's. If you don't know what that means, it's a 15" dual 4 ohm voice coil sub. They pound really hard in a sealed box. I can't wait to hear them in a big ported (Working on it) box.
I have never heard a cerwin vega, but I have heard bad things about their SQ.
The mtx 6000 series has great SQ, I don't know about the 8000 series.

the mtx is mainly for clarity but corwin vega isnt bad. the only prob with mtx their high wattage speakers cost alot...if you want something that sounds good with ALOT of bass....good clean bass, git the Power Acoustic mofo its like 250bucks or something and its a real nice deal cause its 1200 watts rms and 2400 max...really nice check it out here http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/POWMOFO12 now if you are looking for a better sounding woofer here is where you should go http://www.carstereoconnection.com/w...ofers/prod.asp
but i need some help also...if anyone of you knows the audio manke named ""Lanzar"" and their performance tell me because i am about to git a bandpass 12 for 109 bucks so please help me if you have a better deal this is what i am gitting http://www.carstereoconnection.com/w...T02/detail.asp

I was posting an opinion, not a fact, get that straight before you post.

Posting an opinion based on no product knowledge of your own?
I never started hating, either. I'll try being nicer if you try acting smarter. Mmmkay?I have never heard a cerwin vega
MTX is a good company that makes loads of good product, but that doesn't mean it walks all over CV. They've both been in the industry for a long time. CV is known more for Pro audio, and MTX has its mainstay in Mobile audio.
mota20, Lanzar overall makes mediocre product, but the Opti line is actually quite good quite reliable. I've heard good feedback on that line, but I can't tell you whether or not that particular one you're looking at will suit you. Generally bandpass boxes aren't popular because they don't sound good (peaky and lots of air turbulence). Nonetheless, it appears affordably priced.
Better than a six pack of funky pups, I guess. :p

Well, if you weren't hating, then I don't understand why you bothered to post, only to state that you think I need to get my facts straight?

strokers are a competitions SPL sub, they are intended to play certain low frequencies, other vegas are decent, i personally wouldn't buy either
ok guys come to think of it I am planning to buy a 12" Rockford Fosgate P2 woofer....heard them at Best Buy...and do they ever pound hard and crazy....
thanks for ur opinions

What you were doing is giving people information based on lack of product knowledge. You can't just give an opinion on a product without first hearing it or actually KNOWING if it's actually good or bad because you think it's good, rather than knowing.Originally posted by Zero102

Strokers can be made to sound good, and I have witnessed them in SQ in addition to SPL. Problem is, they are not a cheap sub, so there were many other more affordable subs that would be used for street or SQ applications over CV.
Come to think of it, I saw pics of the new Stroker Pro that may or may not be coming out shortly. Now if you thought the old school Stroker is ugly, you should have a look at the new Stroker Pro.

It's more to do with the box and how it's tuned that makes the sub pound than just the sub.Originally posted by noyzz_boyzz

yeah dawg go for the mtx i have one, and it pounds my car like crazy
The problem is MTX sucks and so does Rockford. Get Alpine or Phoenix Gold instead. Type Rs are better then MTX 8000s and cost less, and Phoenix Gold Titaniums are going at cost now since they are getting phased out and they are far better then anything MTX offers.
You can get good deals on really good used subs. Check www.canadiancaraudio.com/ in the classifieds or check here (I am selling two Titanium 12s in box for $400. Let's see you get MTXs or Rockfords up and running that cheap )
However, in terms of warranty service Future Shop has got both Soundsaround (Alpine and Phoenix Gold) and A&B beat, since you usually will get an in store exchange rather then having to wait for new subs.
Look at more then just one shop before you buy anything. Future Shop does not have very good stuff. I still have the two Titanium 12s, and I'll put money on my subs being clearer and louder then any MTXs in a comparable install.
