    Default ARGH.. Insurance SUIT B*...

    Hi.

Need Help Finding an Insurance Company.

I was going to go with Wawanesa. They treat me
as 25 for the purposes of insurance calculation.

However, as an honest fool i asked about autocross.
I just mentioned it and my broker wanted more detail,
despite it having nothing to do with insurance and not
even being covered by insurance it was seen as an important
    detail.

Unfortunatly, for the question posed by my broker using
a sentace which involved 'racing'/autocross i was declined
by Wawanesa. The mere presence of such a word was seen
as an incredible deterant, enough for an official decline, something
that i will have to point out to other insurance companies before
    attempting to get insurance.

This seems to me to be really lame and has closed down my
options. I will continue to try to find an insurance company that
will accept me, of course not mentioning anything about autocross,
as well as probably not becoming involved in autocross for fear
of such actions being taken against me by the remaining insurance
    companies.

If anyone has any suggestions from experience or consideration
    I would appreciate it.

ouch, if anything, i guess this is a good warning to other people to not mention racing while getting insurance!

if u want to make raise hell, u should look carefully into wawanesas policies and see if it mentions that they have the right to fuck u like that.

That's gay. It's not like insurance companies will cover anything that happens to your car at the track anyway.

Oh my, another poor victim .

Man, I got owned by AMA last year because of this. They refused to renew my insurance, and I had to shop somewhere else last minute. Lesson learned though...

    1. Don't tell them you take the car to the track. Ever.
    2. If you go to the track, take your plates off.
    3. Go street race, they'll cover you there, oddly enough. (Joking about going street racing, serious about them covering accidents from street racing).

Alberta Insurance is frickin' weird as hell. I heard AMA even went as far as attending an autocross event, taking plates down, finding any that are insured with them, and terminating their policies.

I started a huge thread on the CSCC forums that got some answers... unfortunately, just bad news from anyone that posted. You can read it here:

Guess you have to have insurance and registration to race there.

Do they expect Trailered cars to have insurance? If so, it's probably not regular insurance that they have.

From talking to the gov of ab today,
it seems that insurance companies have a critera defined for what they find acceptable to insure for, some companies will provide insurance for track cars and others will Reject you (something you have to mention to any other insurance company). This criteria that a companies has is a private internal document.

    bleh.

It's pretty serious if they catch you and your not supposed to be autocrossing the car. If you want to autocross maybe find a company through "Creative Insurance" (in edmonton) that doesn't kill your wallet.

Superesc is right... I was told they started asking on behalf of the Calgary Police. It's because a lot of ppl were stealing cars and drag racing them.

    Just proof of ownership.

Then don't get caught, or don't go autox'ing. It's a real unfortunate situation that we have at this time. If you take precautions, such as taking off plates, using an alias for events, the chances are slim that your insurance carrier will find out.

Sounds like the plates are coming off next time I race there.
