Exclamation Need help with 88 Cavalier.

I have a 1988 Cavalier that serves as my "beater car". It runs well in the warmer weather, around 70 degrees and up, but terrible in the cold. In the cold, if the car is in Park, and i rev the engine, it will die at about half throttle and stall if i don't let up. If I put the car in gear and push the throttle it dies. The weird part is... if i pump the gas pedal, I can get it to go. Eventually (after about 3 mins of "limping" the car around) the car all of a sudden runs fine. It seems that when it warms up it works normal. I need help with what the problem could be, because I am out of clues. I have already tried the following:

    - Throttle Position Sensor (which is what the scanner showed)
    - Fuel Filter
    - Fuel Pump
    - IAC Modules
    - Air filter

It has a 2.0L 4 banger. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot guys.

have you check the ignition module? sometimes they get loose on their mounts and it runs rough until it lines up again.

guessing it had TBI?, if so you may want to pull the injector and take a look at the nozzle.

    any more info?

Injector is clear. I have not checked the ignition module, I will do that today. I have changed the spark plugs and plug wires.

okay here is my text description of a sound.

    vroom-pop-pop-pop-vroom

My 89 did this alot, turns out it was the plug wires. but since your wires are new i think the ig. module is a safe bet.

If not, unplug your battery and re-attach after 15 min.

just a thought, sometimes the idle in these cars will be shit until the comp. learns over again.

    Is it manual or auto

If it's auto could be your tcc

Or maybe the throttle body and intake manifold needs a good asswhoopin cleaning!

    check all your vacuum lines.

No... I put on a brand new TPS already. That is what the scanner read. Unfortunately, it did no good. Thanks anyway. I'l llook into the TCC... its automatic. I really do think it is the ignition module though. Thanks.

your TCC would cause the car to stall when coming out of high RPM's. I.E; coming of the highway your car stalls at the lights.

You can get a ig. module of so many cars in the wreckers.

may just need to clean the electrical terminals.

Run some injector cleaner through it, then check the gapping on the plugs. Same with th o2 sensers. Just a guess, I have a 82 and sounded like mine. But I have a 3.1.

if it seems to be popping back through the throttle body it may have carbon deposits on the valves (seen it before),this is solved by a simple procedure with some high power combustion chamber cleaner ,ei supertune .
