Default WHAT'S THE LASTEST AND GREATEST?

I don't know what I clicked on but I got a ton of garbage dumped on me last night. I've ran Microsoft's Defender, Malicious software remover and removed a lot of stuff. I also downloaded and ran Spybot, Search and Destroy, but when I click on "fix problems" the computer reboots on me leaving the problems untouched so it would appear.
To top it off, anytime I do a new search in google, if it's a newer search term that I've never searched on before, I keep getting redirected when I click on the results. EG : googled CBC, search result : www.cbc.ca, click on the result and it gets redirected to some lame ass, search site.
I'd like to dowload something that'll clear all this up without headaches or as little $$$$ as possible.

    Try Malware Bytes.

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

If it can't get rid of whatever it has through that, then you're in quite a pickle good sir.

I use Kaspersky on all of my comps and so far,

    Update:

For those who don't know IE-7 has some very good signature based detection software and if you keep it updated it is probably now the most secure browser.

I still use firefox because of some of the plugins.

Best free Antivirus programs In order ...

    1) Comodo - if you are a power user only - it contains both an antivirus and a behavioral / sandboxing program (called Defense+ It also has the best software firewall on the web.

    2) Avira Antivir (weak in catching spyware but better than avast.) Use a sandboxing program in conjunction with this (for example - GesWall free edition) and you are 100% protected.

    3) Microsoft security Essentials (ya I know but MS really has picked up their game - it rocks.)

Please don't use AVG-free it does not detect rootkits.

Best place to learn about current AV offerings is by watching Mrizos on youtube.

    Edit:
For cleaning these days you almost always need a bootable CD. Avira has a good one you can download.
Then use Mbam as suggested above and Superantispyware.

Do you think every thing you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told to want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex.

Since this is a couple years old now, any updates on new programs? Or do these older ones still do the job?

My Dad's laptop is running slow as shit right now, so I figure it's in dire need of a good sweeping

for 'cleaning' temp files and general junk use ccleaner.

If you feel the need to do the registry use eusing registry cleaner.

    Both free.

For AV protection ... Comodo is free and now trumps everything else by a mile.

For virus cleaning I currently use the sardu tool kit.
