    Default MSN / router help

    Ok heres the deal

I constantly get bumped off msn messenger without warning. It works fine when I'm at SAIT and worked fine before I got my router so I'm pretty sure the router is the problem.

    Its a linksys BEFW11S4 router.

Inside MSN it says I'm connected through "a non-UPnP IP restricted NAT".

I've messed around with all the router settings and can't figure out how to stop this problem from happening. I also get slow transfer rates and stuff. Does my router just suck? My ISP is telus (adsl) but I don't think thats the problem.

One more thing is that the computer I used the mac-adress clone under doesn't ever seem to have any problems... although im not 100% sure on that since its not a high msn use computer.

    Any suggestions?

go to the telus internet help desk (via phone) and ask for the IP address of the Telus web site that does MAC address registration. Go to that site with your web browser. Register the REAL MAC address of the LinkSys WAN port.

Remove the the MAC address clone on the LinkSys router. Things should work well after that.

If it still pukes, you probably have a bad operating system image on the LinkSys router.

I'd recommend you build the SmoothWall firewall on an old pc and ditch the LinkSys router.
