    Default re-certified car?

If you buy a car off someone and it has a re-built/re-certified status do they have to tell you about it? If they don't tell you or write it on the bill-of-sale and you go do a registry check and it comes up as that, do they have to take it back? or what?

Scenario: My friend sold his Cavalier Z24 and he didn't tell the person who bought it that it was re-built. The person checked the VIN with Alberta Registries and it came up as re-built. The person is threatening to sue my friend or something.

Yes they do have to tell you if it was rebuilt. The guy can sue. Cars that are written off and rebuild are not worth nearly as much as one that wasn't written off.

why didn't the buyer check before he bought it,... but it's a real tough call.
dealers are supposed to let you know,.. but do they? no!
bought a 91 escort gt years ago in bc from a dealer,... turned out it had a cracked frame,.. that was noticeably poorly repaired,... right near drivers control arm.
my 93 mini van,... obvious drivers door and quater were replaced,.. those 2 are the only different shade of bronze on the entire van,.. and the steering wheel isn't perfectly centre.
I should've checked the VIN before i bought the van,... as for the escort which ended up going to a car parts place years ago, ex's dad paid for it.

honestly I think it's my fault for not checkin the VIN and trusting the seller,... but as long as it runs,... hey i'm ok with it,... almost at 300,000 k now,.. no major probs.
