Question Importing BMW from the states??

Hey guys I just fount a car for $4500 American in NY, the guy lost his job and needs cash, I know it's legit. It's a BMW,
"4.5k for the entire car man, i lost my job, and i need $ ..... it has 167k on the body, 48k on the engine , tranny, and rear end....... HID kit.. 18s ..... awesome sound system..... everything.. let me know"
    "92 318iS
Cross Drilled Zimmermans w/Dust Free Pads
    Stage 1 HID 4300k
    M-Technic Wing
    Custom Front Bumper
    18 inch Breytons on Nitto 555s "

It's kinda old but that's dirt cheap, just wondering what it would take for me to get it up here and if it's worth it??

My buddy bought his moms 94 Saab 9000CDE this summer (she lives in Michigan) all he did was fly down there and drive the car back. He paid $5000cdn for the car.

I guess you could get it shipped up here too. I don't know how much it would cost to get it across the border though.

It's not a scam it's from dtmpower.net, and I know the guy has been on the site for quite awhile now.
I'm just wondering if any changes to the car need to be made or anything.
I'm not even sure if i'd keep the car, i'd probably buy it, keep it for awhile and sell it and maybe make some money out of it, or just have it to screw around with, that's about $7000 Canadian, pretty cheap for a good car like that, it's slow and not the best looking but for that price it's hard to say no. If I kept it would have to do big time power mods, I wouldn't be happy going from my car to something slow like that.

2nd thoughts, do you guys think it's worth it, it sounded like a good deal until I found out it's a 92, however the engine has pretty low mileage, what you guys think????

well since engine was replaced and you said the rear end etc. was too most likely it was involved in an accident and/or has a Salvage Title.

Customs is a royal pain. You pay 7% GST on purchase price. Some percentage as duty (because it wasn;t made in NA). Plus another $100 for A/C duty. There are some gov sites out there that what cars can even come into Canada. Do some research first. I was going to buy a Jensen Interceptor from the US but it was going to be a major pain so I bought a Spitfire locally instead. Also if it is a salvage title then it needs to say EXPLICITY "rebuildable" or it can NEVER be registered in Canada so you have nice parts car. You may need DRLs retro-fitted as well - depending on year. Personally I wouldn't bother with the hassle.

dont buy it!!! haha, itll be like my car...mines falling apart, the older E36 seem to have reliability issues (prolly cus early in generation), but if theres only 48k on the engine and tranny you should be fine, and i warn you...318s...are not fast nor furious, but they look damn
