Digi cam recomendations

hi everyone. i'll be getting a new digicam soon and i'm just looking for some recomendations. i'm looking for something entry level. atleast 3mp with a decent optical zoom. memory size doesn't really matter cause i'm going to upgrade that anyways. Is Kodak any good? or Sony? what about Pentax? i know they make great SLRs but what about digital? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

i had a kodak, it is utter JUNK, my bro in law just bought a canon A75 3.2MP a bit of zoom, he's really happy with it, and it only cost him $500 WITH a 256 12x lexar CF card and a pack of 4 nickle metal AA rechargeables, with charger... he seems very happy with it.

(but he has never had a digi cam before, so this could be why )

i was looking at a canon but it had 5.1x digi zoom but no optical! so i said nuts to that. what about pentax though, are their digitals anygood?

just did a search (which i should've done it the first place ) and it seems like people here like canons. what the difference of an A70 from the A75. they seem the same to me. and also i found the A75 for $400 at future shop, anyone know how much the A70 goes for? thanx again

orry to post again lol, but i just got PMed by another member with a canon power shot S30. i'm gonna do some research on it but does anyone here have any opinions on this cam? and is $350 a good price?

S30 is about 3 generations back.

It doesn't run on Canon's DiGic Processer so you're gonna be doing 30 sec movie clips instead of 3 mins and it can't "multi-task"

it also only has 3 focusing points where as the later gens have up to 9. It's also lost the custom funtions...

I paid $630 for mine back in da days... If you are gonna use the manual functions... $350 isn't that bad of a price.

tho $350 will get you the A70 (also discontinued... but 1 generation old) which has both the DiGic processer and the 9 point focusing... but it runs on AA batteries...

If you like the steelie feel of it then go for it. otherwise A70 is just as good if not even better.

I just picked up an A75 on Monday......you won't be disappointed with this camera (I'll post some pics I took tomorrow or something after I get a chance to take some pics during daylight...see pics in my sig for some previews )

for 400 bucks he has thrown in an extra battery pack, a 128mb card and shipping. i don't know what to do. i think the A75 is a better cam (slightly) but thats such a good deal on the S30

I'd prefer the A70/A75 a little more over then the S30... A70 is still gonna be a little faster than the S30
