    Default Cold air intake problems

Is it true due to cold winters, that if you have a cold air intake it can lock up your engine during the winter months? how can you prevent this (if there is a way)? or do you physically hafta take apart the cold air and put on the regular air filter during winter?

and if i wanted to avoid this problem should i just get a short ram intake? does this have any major problems?

I was worried about the same thing but nothing happened during the winter, so don't be concerned about it.

i dont think u should even worry about that.

have u heard of anyone hydrolocking their car that way? next to impossible, since the filter has to be totally submerged. u have to get your water pretty much as high as the door sill for that to happen.

    calgary doesnt get monsoons

like gts jeff said the only way you can hydrolock it is by submerging the filter in a puddle of water. and if you are in a puddle that deep your CAI might not be your biggest concern.

I'm supprised he even knows what a CAI is, o well, even if you hyrdro-lock your engine, most of the time it doesn't even reck it, no bend rods, you just pull the spark plugs, turn it over a couple times, pop them back in, and start that bad boy up. 4x4 guys hydro-lock their engines all the time. its only when the engine is under high load or reving all the way to fuck that your gonafuck it over.

Don't they make ones that can be converted from short ram to CAI? I think they are a little more, but worth it..

Cold air intake locking up the engine....that doesn't make any sense.....all the thing does is suck air. I don't think that rumor is true. Where I DO see a problem is that putting a cold air intake means removing the heated air hose that goes from the exhaust manifold to the filter.. This just means you have to let the car warm up longer in the winter. A cold air intake will NOT seize the engine.

    HAHAH!

Not only are you digging up every single old thread... but you are supplying false information! Come up to Edmonton and tell the dozens of people that destroyed their engines in the flood that hydrolock doesn't happen.

unless a large amount of water gets in through the cai you will be fine

the only way this can happen is if you are in a huge pudle giving your engine time to suck in water so it does happen but under very rare circumstances

    so keep that in mind

ive had mine 3 yrs and ive had it in every condition and no probs at all
