Just got my 93 Civic tested at Canadian Tire near Richmond and Sarcee.

Heard some negative remarks about Cdn Tire but my car passed with no problems. I even had a B20B in place of the stock engine but the mechanic didn't care... or didn't notice.

    Cost me around $130.

thats because the mechanic probably didn't do it, he just had one of his "apprentices" do it and he signed off on it. i hate canadian tire for that stuff. the pay someone minimum wage to do the mechanics jobs.

The OPI is a safety inspection, they ony lift the hood to check the frame rails and brake fluid etc, you could have a Mr. Fusion power inverter cross connected to a Tri-ambic rhobulator and it would pass.

Well after a certain year it was mandatory for cars to have DRL.. i think your car is too old for it to have to have them.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”

any mechanic passing a car that is unsafe and doesnt conform to provincial standards can get fined or their ticket suspended.

getting an apprentice to do it, or 'checking blinkers and brake fluid' isn't allowed.

what they mandate or 'suggest' is the flat rate, not what the shop charges for it, which is reflected in the different prices.

I think our shop charges like an hour or 1.5 hours for an out of province inspection, and only a few of our techs do them. they dont piss around either, they actually do it properly.
