Default safe operating temp for P4

does anyone know the safe operating temp for a P4 2.4GHz.

Reason why I ask is recently my computer has been overheating according to the onboard diagnostics tool that came with my intel board. At first I thought it was due to dust, so I cleaned out my case, and I still have the problem. It keeps yelling at me saying it's overheating everytime I try to burn a DVD. All my fans are functioning properly, I really don't know what's happening, has anyone else had this problem before?

My intel monitor freaked about temperature the other night when I was playing Colin Rally 4. The cpu temp was upper 50s. If your room has crappy circulation (ie, it's an oven) you either get better cooling, or don't push the processor (games, dvd burning, etc).

I just opened the front of my case so my main oscilating fan gets it a bit - works fine. These hot days aren't that common anyway.

i bet the program is just set too conservatively. u can probably change the critical temperature on it. unless u are locking up or weird stuff is happening, u arent actually overheating.

Word..mine gets up to around 70 when I'm playing games and stuff, but never above 72, and it's fine. (Laptop, that's why it's so hot)
