turn it up to 7-8psi from the factory damnit. It'd be alot easier to sell at that price with some more competitive numbers
The wrx runs 14! as well as the upcoming turbo Neon.
all mazda speed did was put a turbo on the standard protege engine. 9.1:1 compression ratio with all stock internals. the engine probably can't handle much boost.

I used to be a huge mazda fan and after me experiences with them i fuckin hate them, the only good mazda ever built was the third gen. RX-7 twin turbo, i have yet to drive a mazda that i am truly happy with.

Ah yes, the FD: Factory Defect

    Right Joe Malms?

I actually think Mazda may have been conservative with the boost of this car cause of the FD. They don't want massive warranty claims, like the FD had for blown stock motors.

    stereotypical dealers
Maybe they are stereotypical because of people like you, who don't intend to buy the car, but want to test-drive one?

They were right! They saved themselves wear on the car that will eventually be someone elses car, less money on a car with higher km's, and the salesman would probably lose money wasting time on you.

    It's actually 5.5psi!

But since the compression is high, wouldn't 5.5psi be somewhat sufficient? Say if it did run 8psi, it would produce the same power as the WRX running 14psi right? I apologize if it sounds confusing.

170hp is deffinitely not sufficient and when people start to modify these cars i.e raise the boost they are going to encounter some serious problems because of the weak bottom end

I'd rather turbocharge the P5 than the buy the MP3.

    Protege 5 brand new = 23K
FM Protege Turbo kit = 5K (3.5K US)

    Total = 28+K

    Check out the dyno numbers.

    http://www.flyinmiata.com/protege/tech/dyno.asp

That leaves you about 4K to do whatever you want with suspension and wheels.

As I said, 35g is the MSRP...freight tax everything will be 39-40

just like the mazdaspeed climbs to 32 with freight tax everything.
    actually I paid a tad under 38

as for the compression...you guys think 9.1:1 is really high?
8psi would be fine in my opinion, but then again the internals may be weak as shit.

actually 9.1:1 is really not all that bad..my car is 8.5:1 and it loves the boost..im just not confident about the protege block

$28,200 base price? Talk about mark-up.

Official MSRP is $26,995 + GST + fees.

I actually think Mazda may have been conservative with the boost of this car cause of the FD. They don't want massive warranty claims, like the FD had for blown stock motors.
Want to know why? Because with a full turbo back exhaust you'll see well over a 35% hp gain. Put that on, dont add any fuel and pop goes the motor. Its pretty much the same as any other turbo car.

Maybe they are stereotypical because of people like you, who don't intend to buy the car, but want to test-drive one?

Thats great and all. But what *if* he actually wanted to buy it? I would never walk into a dealership with the intention to buy anything, usually results in buying something you shouldnt have (impulse buying).

As for the mazdaspeed, it comes with a garret turbo if Im not mistaken. Those should be good for ~25psi before it starts to lose efficiency, if I am wrong of course someone correct me
