Default Redlyne gives the Mazda speed a thumbs down..for now

last week was the annual AJAX testfest here in Ontario, where automotive journalists from all over come to test vehicles and record stats. The final prices on the cars where also released.....the mazdaspeed was one that really dissapointed me...The interior amenities although composed of after market manufacturers were still very similar to components youd see in any other car of that price range..the sparco seats, felt like harder than average factory seats and offered minimal support, the interior itself just seemed rather cheap and for being a turbocharged car it sures is weak...a best 0-60mph time of 7.6 seconds recorded..7.6 thats so dissapointing...and with taxes, freight, etc the price climbs to around 32, 000...32gs for a mazda protege ..who are they kidding......hopefully the aftermaket will support this car because just like most of the sports compacts on the market it needs it.

    ouch.

atleast the turbo is nice. wouldn't mind finding a written of one in a couple years and grabbing it. quick spooling, and i have heard it can support 400 hp.

That's what turned me away from the Mazdaspeed.

THE PRICE!! $30g's+ and it's still a Protege. If it was $27k, I prolly would've gotten it.

I also saw it on Motoring 2002. It looked good though, but it looked so fucking high off the ground. I don't know what kind of drivers were there, but 7.6 for a 0-60mph run is pretty sad. Motor Trend and AutoWeek(I think) Got 6.5 and 14.9 for the 1/4mile. But I guess we'll wait and see for someone take it to the track here first.

I still have my deposit at the dealership, so I'll wait and take it for a rip, and report back!

I think if you guys saw what all went in to it, perhaps you would be a bit more understanding.
Although I don't know first hand, so I can't really comment. All I know is what I've read.

Spacro seats SHOULD feel comfortable though....

Base 5 speed is 35Gs, and I don't think I'd get anything added

    That's what I did.

Some guys on I-club actually paid under MSRP! I couldn't really bargain on mine, cuz I was trading a car in. They low-balled me hardcore for the P5.

The only thing I would've added is prolly the OEM kit, but my poor ass couldn't afford anything else.

Not many options available anyways. Well, no real good ones anyways.

As I said, 35g is the MSRP...freight tax everything will be 39-40

just like the mazdaspeed climbs to 32 with freight tax everything.

    MSRP = $34,995
    freight,pdi,etc = 1560 or so
    --------
    $36,555
    2,558.85
    --------
    39,113.85

You could possibly bargain off another $2000.

I'm the exact same way. I will never ever buy a used car. It gives me the chills to think of what it could have been through... And full warranty on a new car is always a plus!
