    Default Odometer reprogramming

    Hey all

The gauge cluster on my 94 BMW 318 is flaking in/out and I am 99% positive that the gauge cluster is the problem. Replacing it becomes an issue with the odometer reading

If I were to buy a new cluster from the dealer($$$) the odometer would read 0. I can't find any used ones near my mileage(125k) and they're all above 200.

Does anyone know who/where/or how I can get the odometer reprogrammed to the proper mileage? I wouldn't care personally if it read 0 or above 200 *but* it would hurt resale(nobody would believe me.)

bikes might be diffrent but i know most newer cars the milage is recorded and stored in the computer not in the actual cluster... if it is in the actual cluster im sure any bike shop could reporgram it.

This is my BMW... a '94 318is. The dealership says they can't reprogram it(hence if i were to buy a new one from them it would read 0.)

sorry, the bike in yer avatar threw me off :P i think if you report it with the registries that the odometer was reset due to a bad cluster they will report it and thne if any future buyers have nay questosn they can run a vehicle history check on it.

No one would believe that either. I could get you 20 of those stickers today if you like.

Check ebay for a gauge cluster with similar km's. Or else buy the 200k one, and move it back to 125

That's what I'm thinking I'll have to do... but the odometer is digital and would need to be reprogrammed.

I *know* there is a service somewhere(i've seen the guys website) who says he can reprogram BMW clusters.... but this was 2 years ago when I saw it.

An eBay cluster isn't the best solution either(as they are all in miles.) I'm thinking about resale here...

get one with lower milage than yours and find a wiring scheme for it and run it on a drill up to your milage...
