Yeah they'll settle it...it's the owners that are locking the players out, not the players walking out. The NHL is gonna start cracking the whip soon enough. Who knows, they may be making decisions and negotiations, it could all just be a huge scam to get everyone nervous about no season and then at last minute they are all "yeah we're playing now" so everyone will be excited and rush out to watch the games that might have never happened...haha just a theory, but yeah, I think they'll settle it all soon enough

Yep, but it will work. I think attendance will go up this year and maybe some more teams will at least break even.

I hate the NHLPA. they are greedy bastards. if the average salary dropped from 1.8 million to 1.5 the league would be stable. it's not like the NHL is trying to get salaries back down under a million like when the current CBA was written in 1994. this whole thing is BS. the player are the ones causing the will be lockout.

if there is a lockout and it lasts more than a month or 2, the nhl will have lost me as a fan. a lockout is the ultimate sign of disrespect toward the people who pay the bills, the fans.

I disagree. That may work in Canada, but in the US where hockey has enough trouble drawing fans as it is, there is no way any form of labor dispute is going to make attendances rise. Hell, even baseball suffered greatly at the gates when they had a strike, and that game is "America's Past Time."

There will be a lockout; who knows how long it will last. I just hope that they get things worked out so teams like Calgary will be able to compete on a level playing field, so we can see more runs from the Flames like this year.

the players are? i dont think so. the owners are the ones handing out the money and driving up the price of players.

Jagr, yashin, peca, guerin, etc, etc, etc

who decided to have a bidding war on these players?

    um ya.......

Although I'm inspired by the Flames recent playoff run, I really don't feel towards either side. The owners got themselves into this mess by spending like mad in the first place, and the players only feed the fire by looking out for only themselves.

I'm sick of players who play well in their contract year and then disappear after they start cashing cheques. I'm also tired of owners crying poor, yet they charge over $100 for a half ass seat, and then $6 for crappy heroin beer at the dome.

As a guy who busts his ass working more hours than any hockey player, but is only compensated a fraction of what they are, I know I could care less if they lock out / strike and I've been a Flames fan since I was in grade 3 and the Flames came here from Atlanta.

I know I'll be finding better ways to spend my $ rather than lining the pockets of owners or players. Sorry for the rant, but I've had enough.

True, but should ALL teams be penalized for the work of 4-5 owners?

You don't see teams like Cal, Edm, even Ott offering 2nd liners like Holik $9 mil/season.

If all the teams were guilty of this, I'd side with the players. But the fact is 5 teams are making stupid moves and setting the insanely expensive market for other teams to try and survive in. But the fact that you have someone like Craig Conroy wanting to be paid along the same lines as Federov, or Holik because other teams were stupid enough to give out ridiculous contracts, I can't have any sympathy for the players.

NHL players feel they should be paid like basketball and football players. I have one number for them: $17.6 Billion - that's the amount the last NFL TV contract was worth. How much is the new NHL tv contract worth? You got it - NOTHING.

How these players think they should still be entitled to wages comparable to the NFL is beyond me.

Its a heck of alot more then 5 teams that spend far too freely.

I'd say its prolly much closer then half the teams. And then when you look at those teams that arent spending freely its not because they dont want to... its because they cant. Betmen has stuck them in the middle of but fuck nowhere, and the fans just dont like or care about hockey. But thats a whole other problem

They make enough money already! Enough said......I don't care what the implications are should they lock them out blah blah blah

I'd love to have a million a dollars, hell even $500K would set me for life since that seems like the average for guys who barely even play aka. Lynn Loyns, when was the last time he played? $500K to be on the practice squad

Greedy Greedy bastards. They play a sport they love for more millions that 90% of us will never see. Absolutely no sympathy here.

But come on dude....... It's so sad to see them make what they make I work seven days in a greasy environment 10+hours/day. I feel bad if they were CFL players because then I make more than most of them........

    fuck the players!
they're going to throw their shit around because 6 million is too small of a salary cap? no way. last season was the last time i ever support the nhl.

of course, we still get free corporate tickets for box seats, but that's free. so it doesn't count.

There will be a lock out. You cannot blame it on one side entirely. Specific owners continued to feed the players hunger by handing out larger and larger contracts to players of less skill. The players on the other hand all see money signs now. Think about it what ever happend to team loyalty? ahem Conroy, it's sad when trades and signings are made on financial reasons instead of pure hockey motives. The players are way too greedy now and the owners have to get themselves out of there own mess. Personally I side with the owners, the players don't need anymore money, hockey does not even begin to compare cash flow wise with the NBA and NFL. The players should have the sense to realize this and realize they are still getting payed an enormous amount of money to do what they "love". I blame alot of it on the NHLPA's head Goodenow (sp?) he's an ignorant pig and his hate for Bettman is pretty great. Nothing will get done for a long ass time. Maybe we'll see a 50 game season, but at this point neither side is willing to compromise. Hell the NHLPA just turned down 7 possible NHL CBA revisions last week. I hope this doesn't ruin the NHL... maybe it'll bring it back to the size it needs to be.
