    Default Porsche 911 Carerra Models

Can someone give me some info on these cars? Problems? Reliability? Major differences in the 00+models?

I was just looking at the Carerra Coupe Manual + factory kit but these cars aren't cheap from the dealer so looking at used ones made more sense. So what difference is there between the Carerra Coupe and C4S other than 4S being AWD and $20K more? Power output is the same?

Those who have driven one, what is power delivery like? Interior amenities? Overall impression? Maintenance bills? Pimp factor?

Any relevant information is greatly appreciated.

PORSCHE is the most realible Exotic car in the world, and best daily driving cars.

C2, C4, C4S, they are very different, a loaded C2 is around $120K plus tax, and loaded C4 is $130K plus tax, and C4S will be $140K plus ... even CD player, logo, extra leather, Xenon, rear Wiper, heated seats, sports seats even if u want the seats go 1 inch lower, $900 options ! or $9000 for the GT-2 spoiler ! .. everything on Porsche is options, you can easily spend $30K on just some Options !

on used car market, if you look for a 996, they are bargain now, compare to the rare 993 ! a 96/97 993 C4S with good condition can sell for near $100K !

C4S is always bargain to buy, they are around $20K more, but offer wide body, turbo brake, turbo suspension, basically, it is a Turbo, without .. the "turbo" ! and still $60K less then the Real Twins Turbo model !

However C4S holds their value the best, since they are so rare, even you may pay a lots more now, to buy a C4S, but you can probaby get 20-30% more money back, compare to a normal C2.

For driving and handling, Porsche AWD is always awesome, but some people like the tricky part of the C2, rear engine, rear drive !
It is very tough to find a used 996 C4S, unless you want to pay near brand new price ! and for buying a used Porsche, make sure you take it to a good good body shop to check over every single body panel, and do a full Machanic inspection !

I was actually suprised with how nice of a ride the porsche gives you
When riding in my dad's old NSX it always seemed so loud, and the interior was also dated
But with my dad's Turbo it was a huge difference. The ride quality was much better, and of course it is much quicker too!

Power delivery? Should feel pretty good cuz it's pretty much on par with the NSX for speed
Interior Amenities? I haven't ridden in a Carrera before but if it's like my dad's Turbo then it's pretty nice. Nothing too flashy about it, but it does its job
    Overall Impression? It's a porsche!
Maintenance Bills? Not really sure about that one..I'll ask my dad though
    Pimp Factor? YES!

    For 996 1999 to 2001 Model, 300HP, 0-60mph in 4.8 Second.

2002 model, with new and more sexy "turbo" style headlights on all model, and with much "taller" front fender, offer 320HP, and a much flater power curve, and from 3.4L to 3.6L engine too,
0-60mph time improve to 4.6 second.

There is also a "power" upgrade, for $20,000 ( not sure ) you get extra 25 HP.

If for 993, 95 and 96 model are 270HP, 97/98 model are 282 HP, same size engine, but much better Vario system.

Actaully, there will be a NEW 2005 Porsche 997 Launch on August 28. new 2005 Model is coming out soon, with mix 993/996 look, most "old" people will like it more then 996, but most "young" people like the look for 996 more !

There will be a Carrera S model for 2005 too, however I was told that they all sold out already for 2005 model.

Service bills ? maintanence cost ? ha ha .. who cares ! Service cost for Porsche ( even the lower end Boxster) are way way more then BMW and Benz .... however, way lower then Ferrari/Lamboghini or Lotus.

Actually, 996 is the lowest maintanence Porsche 911 ever.

If you can afford a $100K porsche... maintenance and gas shouldn't matter... haha (I have always wanted to say that).

Get the STi... same power and speed... 4 doors... half the cost, half the depreciation, and half the hit you will take when you decide to sell it in 6 months... hehe

Yup... go STi. Or a new GTO with a Vortech Supercharger... and maybe some Lingenfelter parts on the side.

    Exactly!
Why not just get an SRT4 then...those things are pretty quick too!

If you get the chance to get the Porsche...then get it!
    You won't be dissappointed!

    Nice Video !

PORSCHE -- there is no Subsitude !

STI is actually quite a bit quicker then all the Carrera ! but .... it is a STi .. a NICE and fast car .... only. I guess Max boost wants a Porsche is not because of speed.

An STi might be faster, but it doesn't have the presence a Porsche would, and to some people, that's an important factor.

I've driven the 996 C2 as well as the C4. The C2 is alright, but needs more power (for a Porsche). Well balanced, no crazy oversteer like the older cars, easy to drive. It's fast but not THAT fast. The C4 has so much grip that it just feels slow, very boring car to drive. Go Turbo or Go Home!

As for looks I personally prefer the 993 look over the 996 look, good to see the upcoming 997 is moving back in that direction. If the world was perfect, Porsche would go back to the 964 look. The 911 3.6 Turbo (964) was the last of the true 911's!

Damn .. seem like both you and me are old guys ! ha ha ..

I love 964 Turbo ! especially the 1994 3.6L RWD ! but damn ..the last one I found from Vancouver, was asking $95K yeah ! ( should be only around 20 of them in Canada)
I just chat to the Porsche service manger, one of his client just sold his 78 Turbo for $37K !
Actually, I love driving the C4, yes, the C2 is more fun, and need more skill to drive, but for Calgary weather, and if for daily driving, C4 is always the ultimate super sports car.
he he .. most the Carrera today are not super fast car .. but .. they never do ! even a new C6 corvette can outrun the 911 easily .. even an STi .. C55, M3 is as quick as a new 911 ... but .. hey .. who doesn't want a Porsche ?

    I agree very strongly

Maxboost, have you moved out yet? If you're going to start a thread about a porsche you better damn well be buying one. Honestly I'd love to have a 993 out of any porsche generation, look for one of those.

RAge, I agree as well. the 993 is a nicer look than the 996 and was more of a beast. I had a chance to drive a 993 twin and it was a fantastic machine, more agressive than the 996...

Didn't the 996 have chronic rear main seal problems?

ha ha .. I have driven the STi for a while .. still, everytime I see a Porsche 911, I turn my head, starr at the Porsches and the drivers ... even they don't even look at my "asian" car ..

I know my car is faster, but so ? I will never try to race with a nice 911, when I see Corvette, M3, then may be, but a Porsche 911, Ferrari ? no, my car is fast, but no class. I fully understand that. that is why it only cost 1/3 of a nice 911 !

Even when I go out with my buddy, he drives a 2000 323Ci, much slower car then mine, ( but more expensive ! ) people still look at his car more then look at mine ! and I can tell most the drivers on the roads respect him, but not me.

Anyway, I love Porsche, and dream to have one ! too bad, even when I can afford to buy one, I probaby can't afford to KEEP one !

I'm just a little confused. I know 993/996/Carerra are the names of the 911 Models but the trims:

    C2/C4/C4S

    C2=?
    C4=?
C4S=AWD + Upgrades without the turbo?

What's the difference between the C2 and C4? I searched Porsche.com and can't seem to figure it out?
